Thunder rolled across the empty fields near the stables. It crashed around them, and the walls of the horse stalls shuddered. Chris still had Rose wrapped in his arms. He was waiting for her to answer his questions. The Lord felt her shoulders heave and fall with each breath she took.

Rose let a ragged sigh escape her lips. "I… I don't want…."
