章節 19: Midnight Guest

"Hold this knife in your hand." A sharp voice stopped Neil's movement to put the knife on the table. A great fear created his body to tremble, he stood stiffening staring at the blade right in the grasp of his hand. "Hold the sharp part."

"But—,"

"I said hold it, hurt your hand. There's a lot of blood for me." That voice this time sounded loud in the closed room.

Neil took a hard breath. He was very scared and wanted to escape from here. Neil gulped observing how the monster grinned as he tightly grasped the blade in his hand, he gasped for breath-holding pain as if the blade split itself. Blood dripped out, littering the floor covered in fluffy carpet drip by drop.

The monster tightly grasped his wrist with an angry growl. "Don't let the drops be wasted, you will destroy my ritual."

Neil held back the tears that were about to escape his cleft lip. The knife fell from the grasp of the hand leaving a painful pulse in Neil's palm.

All for Skylar's sake. Neil reminded it was constantly in his mind to stay afloat for a long time.

"Don't expect you to complain," she snapped, leaving Neil jolted. Neil's hand was pulled and affixed roughly to the surface of the mirror to smear the blood that came out with increasingly stinging pain until Neil finally shouted because he could not hold it anymore. He roared filled the room with the sound of his pain. His cheeks had been wet with melted tears that Neil could no longer afford to bend.

"That hurts? It is with this that your life can be useful. Even the sky runs away from you and is ashamed to have a twin-like you."

After his physique was harmed, Neil felt his heart slashed making him not want to open his eyes again. Everything felt swelled instantly.

"I forgot to tell you before the mirror had been flushed with lime juice with a little salt," she laughed loudly. Neil fell curled up on the floor pressing both of his hands against his ears desperately dispelling the sound from entering his hearing.

The laughter stopped but it wasn't enough to make Neil release his bloodied hand from the side of the head until he heard a whisper from the monster. "There's no need for a reason to make you suffer."

***

Neil awoke with gasps, he instantly looked into his clean hands with no stains or scars. He sighed in relief, but the fear still made him shiver when recalling the nightmare that seemed real. Neil doesn't know if it's the part of his past that he forgot or just a bad night's sleeping flower.

Neil saw the clock that was still showing midnight and he immediately sighed heavily at not being able to try to fall back asleep in the sight of the terrible dream. Why did he dream of such a cruel thing? Neil's body in the dream was like when he was in high school. Neil shook his head to forget about it, but his nil shadow became clearer over time. He pressed his eyes with cold hands but all Neil saw in the darkness of his eyes was just that person's grin.

Neil heard the sound of his phone ringing, he opened his eyes weakly grabbing the phone and pressing for him to answer then sticking it to the ear.

"Open the door of your house." Then the connection was disconnected. Neil was silent for a moment to properly digest what had just happened when Sain suddenly called him. He ruffled his hair and took a gentle breath calming his mind which had been messed up.

Neil slowly got up to his feet and started walking downstairs to open the door.

But it's midnight.

When the door was opened he found Sain standing right in front of him, wearing a crumpled thin T-shirt and shorts, his hair as messy as he had just woken up from sleep. Don't forget to be barefoot and stand at someone else's door in the middle of the night.

"What are you doing, Riksa?"

Sain rubbed the back of his neck and advanced closer to Neil. "I can't sleep and you have nightmares. So I'm here."

Neil's eyes widened looking at Sain in disbelief. How did he know?

"How do you know?" asked Neil half-narrowed, he looked behind Sain's back and couldn't find the bike. How did you come here? Where's your bike?"

Sain clucked in his place. "There are so many questions." Sain came towards him and wrapped his long hands around Neil's shoulder and dragged him inside the house after closing the door again. "You should have let me in first."

Neil lets Sain drag him back to the room as he is still half confused by Sain's sudden arrival.

After Neil locked his room and sat in the corner of the bed he looked back at Sain who had been lying on his back on his mattress. "So?"

"Hm?"

"How did you get here?"

"My house is only a few steps from here," he said lightly.

"What? I never know, where?"

"Next to your house."

Neil sighed, how could he be so blind and not pay attention around. And he recalls that in the first years of school before Sain disappeared he often saw Sain everywhere around his house bothering Neil, but Neil didn't think he was his neighbor.

"How do you know about my dream?" asked Neil once more.

Sain raised his hand and placed his big palm right on Neil's delicately beating chest. "We are connected."

"Don't joke, I'm tired."

"No one forbids you to lie down." With a quick movement, he pulled Neil until he lay crammed next to him.

Neil's hand involuntarily pressed against Sain's chest which slept on its side facing him. He was a little uncomfortable with this closeness, how not? Their noses almost touched. Neil felt his heart beating faster. Feeling he couldn't breathe properly and his throat was stuck until he was at a loss for words.

"I'm not kidding, Neil," he whispered, making Neil shudder.

Neil's eyes never came off looking at Sain's black iris. He felt Sain's hand spreading across his back then stopped to circle his waist.

Time seemed to stop, they were silent just to look at each other. The ice wrapped Neil tightly but not with his cheeks warming up.

"There's no need to be afraid of that dream because there's me who's coming to erase it from your little brain," Sain said softly. Neil stiffened as Sain's warm hands touched directly into his skin as Neil's shirt was slightly smothered at the bottom.

Neil's eyes descended at Sain's high nose and came back down observing those full lips that were slightly open.

Neil felt a heavy breath in front of him. He didn't know why he saw another man like this. Looks so wrong.

"Riksa," Neil called in a hoarse voice. With just that, Neil's face advanced tilting slightly to stick his lips on Sain and watch how Sain's eyes widened before him.

What are you doing, Neil?
