3.63% Ace Combat: Strangereal System / Chapter 2: Ring of Fire

章節 2: Ring of Fire

The missile warning screeched through the cockpit. My hands instinctively jerked the stick to the right, yanking the F-16 into a sharp barrel roll. The pull of G-forces threatened to blur my vision, but I gritted my teeth and focused.

New Skill Unlocked: Evasive Maneuvers

Another ding. I didn't need the system to tell me what I already knew—if I didn't shake this tail, I was dead. The Su-27 behind me was relentless, its missile lock holding fast despite my maneuvers.

"Come on… come on…" I muttered, fingers gripping the throttle. My heart pounded in my chest, the rush of adrenaline almost drowning out the fear clawing at the back of my mind.

Then, out of nowhere, a blue target reticle appeared in my peripheral vision, guiding me. I didn't question it—instinctively, I pulled hard into a dive, hugging the terrain as the missile veered off course, slamming harmlessly into the mountains below.

Skill Activated: Evasive Maneuvers - Missile Evaded

"Foxhound! You alright?" Wolf's voice crackled over the comms, concern in his tone.

"Yeah," I panted, leveling out the F-16 as I quickly scanned the radar. The Su-27 that had been on my tail peeled off, likely repositioning for another strike. But there was no time to worry about him now—I had more incoming.

Three more enemy aircraft were closing in fast. My mind raced. The system said I needed two kills to complete the quest, but five would get me the "bonus."

"Five…" I muttered under my breath, feeling the tug of something dark, something dangerous. Could I really pull that off? I didn't know if it was the system or my own ego talking, but a voice whispered that it was possible.

A second red alert pinged on my HUD. Another missile lock.

"Not this time," I growled. I reached deep, calling on the newfound skill. The system responded immediately.

Skill Activated: Precision Strike (Critical Hit Ready)

The reticle snapped to the nearest Su-27. My heart thudded in my chest as the plane locked into view, almost as if the system was steering for me. With a quick flick of my thumb, I fired a second set of Sidewinders.

The missiles streaked toward the target with unnerving accuracy. The Estovakian pilot tried to break away, but the system's lock held tight. A heartbeat later, both missiles struck their mark, ripping the enemy fighter apart in a brilliant explosion of fire and metal.

Enemy Destroyed. XP Gained: 500

New Level Achieved: Level 2

New Ability Unlocked: Enhanced Reflexes

"Two down," I whispered, adrenaline surging through me. But the fight was far from over.

"Foxhound, more coming in from the north!" Wolf's voice broke in again, sounding strained. "I'm engaged with two on my six—I can't shake them!"

My pulse quickened. I checked my radar—Wolf was boxed in by two more Su-27s, struggling to evade them. If I didn't act fast, I'd lose him, and that wasn't an option.

I rolled my F-16 hard to the right and banked toward his position. My hands felt quicker, smoother now, as though the system had rewired my brain to match the speed of the jet.

New Ability Activated: Enhanced Reflexes (Temporary Boost)

Everything seemed to slow down as I focused in on Wolf's pursuers. My targeting system locked onto the first Su-27. Without hesitation, I fired.

The missile streaked toward the enemy fighter, but this pilot wasn't as easy to catch. He banked hard, narrowly avoiding the missile, but I was already on his tail. I squeezed the trigger again, unleashing a burst of machine gun fire that shredded his left wing. Flames erupted from the engine as the fighter spiraled out of control, crashing into the valley below.

Enemy Destroyed. XP Gained: 250

"Thanks, Foxhound!" Wolf's voice crackled through the radio as he broke free from the remaining bogey.

But there was no time for thanks. Another enemy fighter was closing fast on my position. I barely had a second to react before the lock-on alert blared again. The HUD flashed red, warning me of an imminent missile strike.

Without thinking, I pulled back on the stick, sending the F-16 into a tight loop. The missile zipped by, close enough for me to feel the heat as it streaked past my canopy. My breath came in sharp, shallow bursts. How many times could I dodge death today?

As I leveled out, my eyes caught the enemy fighter still trailing me. I felt the system hum again, a quiet yet insistent presence at the back of my mind. The bonus quest hovered there, almost taunting me. Five kills for the Ace status. Just two more.

I could do this.

Quest Update: Destroy two more enemy aircraft (Bonus Quest: Ace Status)

I grinned, adrenaline overtaking the fear. This wasn't just survival anymore. This was a game, and I had the upper hand.

I veered left, juking hard as the enemy tried to line up another shot. In one fluid motion, I looped back around, coming up directly behind him. My lock-on warning blinked green.

"Game over," I muttered, firing my last missile.

The explosion lit up the sky, and a thrill shot through me. Three down.

Enemy Destroyed. XP Gained: 250

Bonus Quest Progress: 4/5

"One more…" I murmured, scanning the skies. The battlefield was starting to clear up, but there was still one Su-27 circling like a vulture. This one was different though—he wasn't just running; he was baiting me, trying to get me to follow him into a death spiral.

I narrowed my eyes. "Not today, buddy."

I banked hard, giving chase, my thumb hovering over the trigger. As I closed in on his six, the system chimed again.

Skill Activated: Precision Strike

The reticle locked, and I fired. The missile shot forward, homing in with deadly precision. The enemy pilot tried to break away, but it was too late. The missile slammed into his tail, ripping his aircraft apart in a fiery blaze.

Enemy Destroyed. XP Gained: 250

Bonus Quest Completed: Ace Status Achieved

New Ability Unlocked: Aerial Ace

Level Up: Level 3

A wave of exhilaration surged through me as the system's messages flashed across my vision. I was an Ace now. Five kills in one sortie. I glanced at the carnage below, smoke and fire marking where enemy aircraft had fallen.

"Foxhound, you still with me?" Wolf's voice broke through the comms.

"I'm here," I replied, feeling the fatigue hit me all at once.

"Well, damn, looks like you've been busy," he chuckled. "You owe me a drink when we get back."

I smiled, allowing myself a moment of relief. The system had guided me through this fight, and somehow, I'd come out on top. But this wasn't over—there was a lot more to figure out, both about the system and whatever was happening in the world around us.

The sky was clear now, but I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning.
