章節 6: Preparation part 2

It was a sunny day, one of Emily's favorite types of days. She used to sit out in the prairie, on her swing, or just lay in the bunches of flowers. She remembered the feeling of the warm, sunny rays melting on her skin. Then would come a refreshing breeze. It would blow up her skirts and blouses, but it wasn't like anyone was around. She loved the peace and quiet the most.

"Ah!" she said as she let out a sharp gasp.

"Good, you're awake. We are almost to the mall. I figured we could stop and get lunch. You must be starving!"

"Y...eah." Emily was suspicious of her grandmother's enthusiasm.

"You've been asleep ever since we left the funeral home. Almost a half an hour."

"Oh. Okay." Now, she sat up and placed her arm out the car window.

*At the funeral home*

"Well, now that you've seen the setting, would you still like a funeral?" This was said by the home director.

"Emily?" Said her grandmother.

"Well... Do you want a funeral?"

"I've had years to say goodbye. It's okay." She was fiddling with her wedding band.

"Okay... Well then I don't think that we should have a formal funeral. What I suggest we do is go to the church for a service, then to the cemetery. There we can have an informal funeral. People can speak about him, mourn with each other, etc. there. You can even do a eulogy Grandma."

"That is quite a good idea... Except the last part. I think that you should give the speech. You are far better with words than I am. Besides, I'll be a mess the whole time."

"Really? M-me?" A few tears began rolling down her sun kissed cheeks.

"I can't think of anyone better." She smiled.

"Thanks Gram." They hugged. "Thank you for your time sir. The tour was great, we have just decided on something different. Have a good day." With that they left the home.

*Back to the car*

"We're here."

"Yup." Emily exited the car quickly. Her long brown hair was blowing in the breeze. There was a considerable amount of freckles covering her nose that became more visible when she stepped into the sunlight. "Ah. It's beautiful." The fair weather put her mind at ease. "Ready?" She asked her Grandma.

"You bet. Let's go."

They spent an hour eating in the crowded food court. After, they went shopping for outfits to wear at the service. Emily bought a short white top made of silk, and a knee long, black skirt. It had a slit up the back(which allowed for movement), and a few white, embroidered roses that were the exact same shade as her blouse. Her grandmother purchased a long black dress. The whole thing was black poliester fabric, covered in a layer of black lace. She had also bought a small black veil that would cover the majority of her face.

After their shopping, they went back to the hotel. Emily's grandmother went into her room and fell asleep, while Emily entered her room and sat at the desk. She began writing the eulogy. "People... they..." she was reading what she wrote under her breath. "No. That's cheesy." She said. "Funerals... they are expected to help us through situations like this but... Nope. That's terrible." She scribbled a few new words on the paper.

"There we go. Perfect. Now... The shower is calling my name."

As they were both in the comfort of their rooms, Emily's grandfather's service was being prepared. His obituary had been posted a few days ago, and the next day... was the funeral.
