If you took a hammer, and destroyed a solid rock into dust, and then threw all that dust in a lake; that was the feeling I got.
It was as if I had been blown to bits, and spread out on a body of water. I was unconsciously conscious, and didn't know if my body sustained the impact or not. I wondered about the girl, whose name I forgot to ask in the heat of the moment, and whether we'd ever be able to meet ever again or not, considering both of us got reincarnated, and if I would be able to fulfill her wish considering we met after reincarnating.
I did consider thinking about Samael if even we met another time, but I put that thought aside as it'd give rise to meaningless anger.
".....," there was something I could hear. It's intensity increased ever so slightly over time, but I could definitely hear it. And it sounded....like a song. A soft, melodious, pleasing to the heart; just hearing it felt as if I was slowly but consistently regaining consciousness and energy. There was a positive sentiment in my mind and I wanted to go out in the world and contribute more towards helping people.
"Hello there, former Aziel," a voice said. Once again, the speaker wasn't visible, but the voice echoed in what I felt was my mind.
My eyes snapped open, and I tried to stand but there was some sort of gravity fluctuation causing me to float. I fluttered about for a few seconds, trying to be stable in whatever state possible, and once I achieved that, I slowly turned myself whole to look about where I was at. It was an empty space, with a yellowish-white hue and no-one was present there apart from me. It felt like an illusion, but considering my experience with Lady Kenna and Sir Camellia, it seemed possible I was in a 4 dimensional space. But I still wasn't so sure about whether the reincarnation would happen or whether I had died and all that happened was part of my dream.
"Former Aziel, am I audible to you?" that same voice enquired. It sounded like a regular voice, except a bit low and doubled as if two people were speaking at once.
I still wasn't able to spot the speaker. Nevertheless, I decided to answer.
"Hi, yes I can hear you. Ummm, who are you and where am I?" I asked.
"I am the one appointed by Lord Camellia to oversee your passing into a different world; not much different from the one you came from but still having significant differences. However, I cannot disclose my name.
As for where you are, this is a six-dimensional space which I create specifically for applicants that Lord Camellia chooses, or the Goddess chooses."
"Oh, I see," is what I answered.
Wait.
A six-dimensional space?
A four dimensional space would have been understandable, or even a five dimensional one. But a six? It didn't make sense.
I thought about this to myself, but the person surprisingly accurately guessed what I was thinking about, and answered, "The mechanism is very simple, but complex for regular humans to understand. The space that I create, allows me to transfer you lot from one world to another when in need which is an extremely rare case. When static in this space, the one brought in is dead in their original world, and based on the fates, retain their memory or go on to live a fresh life. Not everyone gets either chance, so I would suggest you to not worry about these things and worry about what might happen if you lose this second chance of yours."
Figured as much, and sighed on the insanity of the whole thing.
"So, what's going to happen to me?" I asked.
They responded, "In just a moment you'll have four screens spread out vertically in front of you showcasing the total abilities available, and you'll be allowed to select 9 of them, which over time depending on your progress, develop them to extreme levels."
As per the information, four screens popped up right in front, as huge as a three storey building, startling me.
"Allow me to explain the point system. you can select 9 abilities from a categorization of 4 different types of abilities adding up to 20 points. The top most category is that of "Exclusive rank" which hold 5 points per ability. The second is that of the "Uncommon" abilities, which hold 3 points per ability, and following them are "Rare" abilities which are acquired for 2 points and the "Common" abilities which are acquired for 1 point per ability.
There is no rule which states that you have to choose one ability at least from all the four ranks. You can choose any ability from any of these four ranks, but based on what you choose, there will be a depletion of Stamina, and what we call in the world you are going to be transferred in, Mana.
You might have heard about the word Mana but in case you haven't, it refers to the amount of internal energy which you have which you can use on your attacks to either amplify them or solely use those abilities as an attack or defense, whenever wherever, however needed.
Also, based on the abilities that you're going to choose now, you will be given an ability will be decided upon."
This was a pretty complex, yet simple to understand mechanism and if it really was a big deal as the speaker said, I'd have to be really careful on proceeding from this moment onwards, to a world that I knew nothing of, and for the challenges that would come up ahead.
I calmed my nerves, steeled myself, and looked at each rank, and the options available to me.
In the Exclusive rank, there were five options - Regeneration, Revival, Weapon converter, Face masking and Presence masking. Regeneration would only be able to regenerate the limbs, and not internal organs like if the arms or legs got pierced by swords, or got them totally cut, like that girl. Revival is a very powerful power, and as the name suggests, it revives the one with the ability. The only and the biggest drawback that it has is, it is a use-and-throw power. So until and unless a person with this power is extremely needed in a battle, this power is useless and hence, this power I won't take.
Weapon converter sounded a power much like the one Lady Ken had; the ability to convert her claymore to a sword, polearm, shield whatever and however she needed. The drawback on this power was, there needs to be a constant mana secretion by the owner. If the mana level is poor, the weapon would become unusable, and would pull out all the mana needed for one last attack, before putting the owner at death's door.
Face and presence masking as the names suggest, referred to the ability to be able to change one's face into any face they had ever seen, and conceal their presence completely respectively. These two weren't going to be much helpful for me as I don't wanna become someone else, so the only options left were 'weapon converter', and 'regeneration'.
I thought about both of them, and realised that regeneration would be much more required by me, if I were to fight someone as powerful and not-yet-reachable.
These 5 were extremely well decided, but well enough to choose one only as I would not need all of them. Plus, I only had 20 points to use, so I'd have to choose only one from these five.
In the Rare rank, there were 5 options as well - Weapon crafting, potions making, healing, making spells and teleportation.
Once I chose a power from the Exclusive rank, I'd have only 15 points left, so I'll take up two powers from these 5.
In the Uncommon rank, there were around ten to twelve options, and were a bigger hassle to decide on than the rare or exclusive ones as each one seemed extremely intriguing.
The Common rank had more options than the other three ranks combined had.
Now based on the options I had, if I had to make sure to have an equal number of powers from each rank and that too within the point limit; I would have one Exclusive power, two Rare powers, three Uncommon and three Common powers.
I chose the following - Regeneration, weapon crafting, teleportation, power multiplier (uncommon), telepathy (uncommon), spell maker (uncommon), area radar (common), spell caster (common) and physique enhancer (common).
Pretty non-unique to be fair, but all of them together, being used and developed over time with me gaining experience would be extremely helpful if I can defeat the Demon God i.e., Samael's father.
"I have selected the powers which I wish to have, keeping in mind the number of powers and the points limit. Are we in agreement with me having these powers?" I ask in the air.
A moment of silence came. I figured that maybe I should replace some powers with the others that were available, but then the speaker answered.
"Former Aziel, you've chosen rather different yet not so different abilities, leaving no place where another power could be given to you by our choice, but we'll need some time in order to decide one, which will prove to be the most useful in connecting all of those you chose."
"That's fine," I answer. "I wanna be absolutely certain that even if I made a couple of wrong chances or even all wrong choice, I would still be able to defeat Samael, followed by his brothers and the Demon God."
"Well then, best of luck to you. Your reincarnation cycle will start in a few seconds. I have no clue about the state you'll be found in, at this world, but wherever you would be, make sure to put in your best effort."
All of a sudden, my body started shaking. It wasn't a violent shake, but I got startled by the suddenness. The shaking slowed down, and I got wrapped up in violet light, making me glow brightly.
"Looks like it's time," the person answered. And there he was, standing a couple of feet away from me, as graceful as Sir Camellia and Lady Kenna. Elegantly standing, he had a white-golden priest's cloak, and he smiled at me.
"Goodbye dear friend, may we meet again someday if permitted."
Tears formed in our eyes, and with a happy farewell, I departed.
