章節 6: In the station
As shastri woke up at 4 am, he began to check out today's plans. His father had already volunteered to do the temple duties and other chores and he just had to say the morning prayers and then leave for the police station. Seeing that there was still time, he dozed off again.
Inspector Viraj had already messaged shastri that he would be picking up shastri near the bus stop at 8 am. But shastri did not get the message till 7 am due to poor network coverage. Seeing the message, shastri hurriedly dressed himself up and ran without waiting for his mother's breakfast. Seeing the breakfast left unattended shastri's mother began to mutter to herself. Seeing that shastri's father ran outside to see if there is any chores pending.
As shastri neared the bus stop he saw viraj already waiting for him in the scooter. Seeing shastri nearing him, viraj fixed his helmet and began to start his scooter. As shastri sat behind, Viraj began to drive towards the police station.
"Hey Viraj, did not you have a bike the last time I came here? Where is that bike now?"
"Well. It is in the mechanical shop as of now. The mechanic he would give it yesterday but he has not given it yet saying that he has to check clutch. I don't know what they were doing this many days."
"But why did you give it to the mechanical shop! Did some accident happen?"
"Yeah... we had planned to go to a bike tour near the Ghats. It was okay until the fourth turn…but in the fifth turn I wanted to speed up. Because of that when I made fifth turn I slipped and nearly had an accident….the bike skidded because of that and had some damages. So I had to give it to the mechanical shop."
"Ok, then did not you get wounded?"
"Yeah. I just got some superficial wounds. Not much to worry about." Viraj replied.
"Okay. So you are saying that while moving down the Ghats the turning is very slippery right?" Shastri asked.
"Yes. First while seeing the Ghats you will think that it is an easy ride. But only by going there you will know how tough it is. Every turn is treacherous. I almost makes me feel pity for the drivers."
Shastri answered halfheartedly. It was evident from his voice that he was thinking of something else.
After some time shastri lifted his head with a smile on his face. Then he began to chat with viraj again.
"So, who's scooter is this?"
"My Sister's. She was sent by my parents to watch over me... So I am using her scooter. Anyway she did not have college today."
Viraj looked like he was consoling himself. Shastri felt that there was something fishy.
"Did you ask her?"
"She….She was sleeping. She was looking so tired. So I did not want to ask her. Anyway we are about to reach the police station. Sit tightly."
Shastri felt that scooter was trembling more and more. Feeling that it would not be safe for himself if he engaged in the talk, shastri sat silently.
Once they reached the police station, shastri quickly got down from the scooter. He would rather take a bus then go with Viraj in his scooter again.
When they reached the police station all cops saluted Viraj respectfully. Viraj also smiled at them. Then they began to look at Shastri, who was with viraj in confusion. One of them asked, "Is not he the suspect from the other day?" to which viraj answered "Have not I introduced him? He is shastri-the former police inspector who is also called 'Garuda'. Now you know why Garuda or eagles are famous right?" Seeing all cops shaking their heads he answered," They are famous for their observation. Shastri sir is also famous for his observational skills that helps him quickly solve the case that has baffled many. You remember-"
"Ahem",shastri coughed and then began to speak, "Thank you Inspector Viraj for this wonderful introduction. I am very flattered by it. But can we move now to the case in the hands?"
"Ah I forgot it with my excitement of working with you."viraj said embarrassedly. Then he towards his subordinates and said with an authoritative voice, "I hope you all have collected necessary documents regarding the case."
"Yes Sir. We have already prepared the necessary documents. You can check them out if you want."
"Ok, please place them here. I will glance through them." shastri said. Just as he was about to ask about to ask few more questions to the cops, they heard a sweet voice near the door," My dear bro, did you take my scooter out without asking me again?"
When shastri turned towards viraj, he was shivering considerably.
