Basileus wanted to help Varya get into her dress for the reception but she adamantly refused, insisting that he would try to pull something if she let him. 

While he profusely disagreed with her, he knew she was right. 

He went to one of the windows overlooking the garden below. People were already sitting at the tables and drinking alcohol provided. 

It wasn't the first time people were gathered on behalf of him, but it felt good that everyone was there to celebrate something he had been hiding for so long. Out of all the public events he had to attend, this was one he would think about with fondness for the rest of his life. 

It had been a perfect day so far even though he felt guilty about the scar Varya would now possess for the rest of her life. However, it wasn't the first scar she bore for a Basilian. 

He ran a hand through his hair and sighed gently.
