Rufus merely shrugged, his expression smug and calculating. "Do what you want. But I doubt she'll come back before the close of school. The last time she went out with her last client, she didn't come back till the following morning."
He paused for effect, letting his words sink in before adding,
"Even Lisa saw the scene she caused at the school gate with one of her clients when she came to check on her 'beloved' sister. I had to comfort Lisa myself and even took her to spend the night at a friend's place just to calm her down."
Rufus watched Belinda closely, enjoying the way her composure frayed with every word.
"You don't have to take my word for it. Go ahead, ask around. But even the heavens will bear me witness that I've done what I should do as someone that has the interest of your family at heart." His voice dripped with feigned resignation, as though he were the one burdened with the weight of responsibility.
