Jace's request hung heavily in the air and she could feel the intensity of his gaze boring into her, his eyes trained on her as he waited for her to answer.

"I'm sure you have already given your word to your friend. What did you tell her?" Jace asked, his voice still grave and serious.

Grace finally lifted her head to meet Jace's unwavering gaze. "I can't do it, Sir," she declared. "I don't want to be with Trent."

"But he seems to like you a lot and he might be the only one with the solution before the time the doctor gave for your friend's mother. Are you sure of what you are saying?" Jace tested.

"I've made my decision, Sir. I don't want to be with Trent," she reiterated firmly.

Jace's expression softened inexplicably at her words, a glimmer of admiration shining in his eyes as he saw how resolute Grace was in her rejection. 'I knew I could count on you, Grace,' he murmured to himself.
