The air outside was much colder than Oliver was used to. All summer long he felt the comfort of living indoors, locked away in his room. He'd let some air in through his window. But the air was usually warm. Oliver looked back at his mother. She was standing in the porch tending to his little brother, Benjamin. He felt a sweet happiness whenever he looked at her. Oliver had always looked up to his mother. Despite inheriting her curly brown-orange hair, light blue eyes, and light skin, he never understood why he couldn't have inherited her brave personality as well. Ever since his father left the family five years ago shortly after Benjamin was born, Oliver had stopped talking to people as much. He felt like they could betray him just like his father. But his mother on the other hand, worked harder to raise her two sons by herself. His mother finally looked up and nodded.
''Alright there. Come on Benjamin, Oliver is going to be late.'' Oliver sighed. He dreaded this day for weeks. Starting in a new school was going to be hard. But at least he knew he wasn't going to be the only new sophomore at his new high school. Ever since the accident at Oliver's old school, parents have decided to move their children in a school where they could get emotional support. Oliver didn't feel like he needed it, but because he had totally cut everyone from his life, his mother had no choice but to help him regain his social life. She knew it was important.
''It's a new beginning Oliver. Forget the past and look forward.''
