Ethan answered the phone, his voice calm but curious, "Hi. What happened, Vanessa?"

Vanessa's voice sounded concerned on the other end. "I was just wondering what happened to your desk. Everything is a mess, and you're not there. Just checking in, is everything alright?"

"Yes, don't worry. Yesterday, I got a call and had to rush out. I'll be there this afternoon," he reassured her. "Are you working on your day off?"

"Yes, I am," she replied. "I needed to grab some stuff to work from home, and I wanted to say hi. I brought you a croissant."

Ethan chuckled softly, appreciating the gesture. "Thanks for being so thoughtful, but I'm taking the morning off."

There was a pause before Vanessa spoke again, her voice softening. "Alright... well, take care."

"Bye, see you Monday," Ethan said, ready to hang up.

"Bye," Vanessa whispered before the call ended.
