Nick stopped laughing. 'Is he?' Gently his fingers encircled her neck. 'Think about it. I hope you make the right choice.' He planted another kiss on the tip of her nose. 'Little public relations practitioner, you'd better make yourself presentable for the man who loves you.'

Back in the bathroom to clean away the damage she wondered what she was missing here. Was that an ultimatum: sex for the account? She'd need an appointment book. Or was it altogether something more sinister? Her fingers shook as she retied her hair. Searching the vanity she found a glass and filling it with water gargled away his taste. There was toothpaste too, and she scrubbed it around her teeth with a finger and gargled again. It was a waste of time. Each time she thought of his tongue the taste returned. She applied lipstick and went back to William. He was almost welcome.

'Where have you been? I was about to come searching.'
