章節 44: Chapter 44: Epiphany

Ronnie’s POV

Wednesday morning, I wake with strands of Nancy’s hair in my mouth and her warm breath on my neck. Her limbs are wrapped tightly around my chest and waist. I slowly crawl out from the heater that is Nancy.

I make my way to the kitchen and start a pot of coffee. I’m not sure how people start any day without drinking coffee. Without my daily dose, I’m like a zombie with a raging headache.

I get all the fixings out and start French toast, eggs, and bacon. While flipping a couple of eggs, I feel small, cold hands slide around my waist. My muscles tighten as a cold chill runs down my spine and fear spreads through me.

Turning around, I find Nancy snuggled up to my back. My muscles loosen and my heart rate steadies seeing Nancy’s sleepy face. No one’s ever snuck up on me like that. Nancy’s footsteps are so quiet I didn’t even know she left the bed.

“Good morning,” Nancy mumbles into my skin.
