章節 522: The Path to Heaven

編輯: EndlessFantasy Translation

Many would think that cities like Coninopolis, whose inhabitants practice magic, would not allow religion fester within it.

The proud Rohlserlian sorcerers had long since made known the disgust they felt for religion, which they regarded as a conman's scheme, created to fool the uneducated. Mornserian sorcerers — whose actions took after their Rohlserlian counterparts — also shared this belief. Nevertheless, religion, which both Rohlserlian and Mornserian sorcerers considered a conman's scheme, would go on to thrive greatly in an atheistic city. In the future, the most powerful and influential organization in Isythre ended up being a religious group.

[1] Yea, I’m gonna go read up the stats on this one after work because that’s some interesting and grand assertion right there. Look, I know it’s instinctive to think that way because 1) religions, unlike nations, can exist in small communities and are relatively mobile and unrestricted; hence they could start conflicts anywhere and more easily; 2), there are more alert and sensationalization to news of terrorist attacks than news of warring nations. But if there’s one thing cognitive science has taught me way too much, it’s that “instincts bear the worst of cognitive fallacies.” I can already think of several reasons why Baiyi’s assertion may be refuted (given that I haven’t checked the stats, I said “may” >.<) such as conflation of religious conflicts and national conflicts in the past, the contribution of war crimes and death toll by wars of ideologies and politics, the availability heuristics (and many other fallacies), and even strong bias against religions in atheistic China, where Baiyi was from, which colors his judgment. Hmm… Or! The stats could prove his assertion true in the end. I’m going to find out anyway! Hee hee hee, is it wrong that I find verification of claims and stories so terribly exciting?! Maybe I should join Snopes! ^_~

[2] Oh my god, killer cardio, man. And how tall would that be? I bet if I accidentally fall off from the tower, I wouldn’t die by smacking into a Kafka pulp on the pavement — I would just die out of starvation, midway through the fall!
