章節 3: 3

When Ash turned his head, he saw a boy around the same age as him. The boy had spiky red hair, with one hand in his hair, narcissistically playing with it, looking quite smug.

Even without Ash's memories, he could instantly recognize who this was.

"I'm shocked I'm not late for once, Gary!"

This arrogant boy was none other than Gary Oak, Professor Oak's grandson and Ash's childhood rival.

In another world, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario and one of Nintendo's legendary developers, shared the same name. Perhaps it was no coincidence that brilliant minds gravitated toward each other.

In this world, Gary was born into privilege, surrounded by success. This upbringing shaped his proud and overconfident personality, making him Ash's first rival. However, as time went on, Gary's character matured, becoming calm and composed.

Despite their constant bickering, Ash and Gary shared a deep bond. Both dreamed of becoming the strongest Trainers, though Gary eventually chose to follow in Professor Oak's footsteps.

From his combined memories, Ash knew that even though Gary often teased and provoked him, it wasn't out of malice. In truth, they were lifelong friends. It's often the case that those who argue with you the most are the ones who care about you deeply.

"Hmph!" Gary huffed, still too young to deliver the sharp insults of the older version seen in the anime.

In the past, Ash would have been quick to anger, which always delighted Gary. Seeing Ash furious gave Gary a sense of satisfaction. But this time, when Ash didn't react, Gary, who had prepared a slew of teasing remarks, found himself at a loss. In the end, he could only turn his head away with a pout.

Ash simply smiled. Gary's sharp tongue wasn't worth getting worked up over, especially when he was just a child.

Soon, more children arrived for the summer camp, some accompanied by their families. However, the parents only dropped the children off, as the camp was fully managed by Professor Oak. It seemed parents in this world were remarkably laid-back.

In total, 30 children joined the summer camp, making it feel like a full kindergarten class.

"Professor, all the children are accounted for. We're ready to go," a staff member reported after checking attendance.

"Great! Let's get started. Everyone, stay in line. We'll be heading to Route 1. It's a forested area, so make sure to stick with the group and don't wander off!"

Route 1, located near Pallet Town, was a safe area where the Pokémon were mostly small and harmless, making it a perfect spot for children to explore.

"Yes!" the children responded in unison. While the parents seemed carefree, the truth was that children in this world were more responsible, given that many started their Pokémon journeys at the age of 10.

With that, Professor Oak led the group out of town, followed by the Laboratory staff. It didn't take long—only about 10 minutes—to reach the edge of the forest.

"Wow!" the children exclaimed, their eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the lush greenery.

Flap, flap!

Suddenly, the sound of wings came from the nearby forest. A group of bird-like Pokémon took flight, causing the children to erupt into more excited cries.

"It's Pokémon!"

Seeing the kids' excitement, Professor Oak smiled and began his lecture. After all, the camp's main purpose was to teach children about Pokémon in their natural habitats.

"Everyone, those are Pidgey, small Flying-type Pokémon."

"Pidgey are gentle by nature. Even if startled or attacked, they often choose to create a sandstorm to escape rather than fight back. Their flying abilities make them a popular choice for beginner Trainers."

The children listened intently, captivated by the explanation.

"Pidgey usually live in dense forests like this one. However, there's another Flying-type Pokémon you should be aware of: Spearow."

"Spearow have fiery tempers and a strong sense of territory. They often clash with Pidgey. If startled, they attack in flocks. Sometimes, they can be mistaken for Pidgey in the forest, so be cautious when approaching."

"Got it!" the children replied, eager to soak up all the information.

"Alright, let's keep moving," Professor Oak instructed.

The group continued deeper into Route 1, heading toward their camping site. Along the way, they encountered various Pokémon like Rattata, Oddish, Caterpie, and Weedle. Professor Oak took the time to explain each one, making the walk both educational and exciting.

Eventually, they reached a clearing near a river. Upstream lay the campsite where they would spend the night.

"Let's take a short break here," Professor Oak announced.

"Yes!" the children cheered. Though full of energy, the long trek in the summer heat had worn them out. Sweaty and tired, they plopped down on the grass to rest, enjoying the moment of calm before continuing their adventure.
