Kaito stumbled over the debris-strewn floor, his breath ragged as the behemoth closed in behind him. The massive creature's guttural roar drowned out all other sounds, each step shaking the arena and threatening to knock him off balance.
"There's no end to this!" Mika cried, barely dodging a smaller creature as it lunged at her.
"Just keep moving!" Reika barked, firing her rifle over her shoulder. The bullets barely seemed to slow the monsters down, their glowing eyes unyielding in their pursuit.
Haruto trailed behind, clutching his side where a stray claw had grazed him earlier. His face was pale, his movements sluggish. "I… I can't…"
"Yes, you can!" Kaito shouted, grabbing Haruto's arm and pulling him forward. "Don't stop!"
The team rounded a corner, only to find their path blocked by a towering wall of debris. Kaito's stomach sank as he realized there was no way around it. The behemoth's shadow loomed over them, its roars shaking the very air.
"This is it," Mika whispered, her voice trembling.
"Not yet," Reika growled, stepping in front of the group. Her rifle was nearly out of ammo, but she raised it anyway, her stance unyielding.
As the behemoth reared back, preparing to strike, a high-pitched whirring sound cut through the chaos. Kaito looked up and saw a drone descending from above, its sleek, futuristic design gleaming under the arena's lights.
"What is that?" Haruto asked, his voice a mix of awe and disbelief.
The drone hovered for a moment before releasing its payload. A metallic crate slammed into the ground, the impact kicking up a cloud of dust.
Kaito didn't hesitate. He darted forward, prying the crate open with trembling hands. Inside was a weapon unlike anything he'd ever seen—a sleek, silver cannon with glowing blue lines running along its barrel. The weapon hummed with energy, its futuristic design completely out of place in the chaos around them.
"What… is this?" Kaito muttered, his hands hesitating over the cannon.
"No time for questions!" Reika shouted. "Grab it and use it!"
Kaito lifted the weapon, its weight surprising yet manageable. The grip seemed to mold to his hands, as if the weapon had been designed for him.
"Point and shoot!" Mika urged, her voice urgent.
The behemoth let out a deafening roar, raising its massive claw to strike. Kaito steadied his grip, aiming the cannon at the monster. His finger found the trigger, and he pulled.
The weapon roared to life, releasing a blinding beam of energy that tore through the air with a deafening crack. The beam struck the behemoth square in the chest, sending it stumbling backward with an ear-splitting screech.
The smaller creatures recoiled, their movements erratic as if thrown into disarray by the attack.
"Holy—" Haruto started, his words trailing off as he stared at the weapon in awe.
"It works!" Mika shouted, her voice tinged with newfound hope.
Kaito felt a surge of adrenaline as he aimed again, firing another shot. The beam carved through the swarm of smaller monsters, leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
The behemoth, though wounded, was far from defeated. It roared in defiance, its glowing eyes burning with renewed fury. Kaito's hands shook as he realized the cannon's energy was depleting rapidly—the glowing lines along its barrel dimming with each shot.
"We can't stay here!" Reika shouted. "That thing's not going down without a fight!"
Kaito nodded, his mind racing. The weapon had given them a chance—a glimmer of hope—but they couldn't rely on it alone.
"Move!" he commanded, leading the group away from the behemoth as it struggled to regain its footing.
