章節 48: Chapter 48: Wrapping Up

Zhan Kong's figure slowly descended from the sky, landing at the forefront amidst the cheers of the crowd.

Everyone had a smile on their face: Tang Yue, Lu Mei, Lin Yuxin, Yang Zuohe, Principal Zhu, Deng Kai, and even Lu Jun noticed the presence of people from the Mu Clan's faction—Mu Zhuoyun and Mu Ningxue.

Yes, Mu Ningxue was here too. This time, Lu Jun's actions disrupted the original trajectory. She didn't leave for the Imperial Capital University after Mo Fan's duel but instead stayed to fight alongside Bo City.

At this moment, regardless of identity or status, everyone celebrated together. The pure and sincere emotions moved all who witnessed it.

Seeing this scene, Lu Jun felt a bit dazed. Had he truly changed the future? Shattered the script and achieved a perfect ending?

Gradually, he smiled as his thoughts wandered.

How great it was to battle against demons! He had survived the most critical tribulation of his life and safeguarded his hometown.

Next was the academy. Surely, battling humans would be equally thrilling.

Speaking of which, Lu Jun had never fought against human mages. Over the past three years, he had fought only in the wilderness, battling Black Vatican heretics and demonic beasts.

Quickly, he returned to his senses. Noticing the rain easing and clouds dispersing in the night sky, he exhaled deeply. This indicated that the Black Vatican had fully abandoned their plans and withdrawn Wu Ku, the Rain Summoner.

The situation was settled!

Even so, Lu Jun remained vigilant. He couldn't definitively confirm that the Black Vatican wouldn't act again. Thus, before the operation began, he had Tang Yue send out intelligence, specifically instructing her to deliver it solely to her uncle, the Judgment Master of Hangzhou.

This ensured a safety net in case of unexpected changes.

Besides, Zhan Kong wasn't ordinary. At the peak of the Advanced level and wielding forbidden ancestral techniques, he could deal with someone like Wu Ku, a lower-tier Super Mage, if necessary. This was the fallback strategy.

Only after careful consideration did Lu Jun take action. Now, as his gaze swept across the crowd, he noticed Mu He among the Mu Clan members.

Mu He was smiling, seemingly sharing in the joy of the victory.

Lu Jun almost laughed aloud. Knowing Mu He's true identity and then seeing him forced to disguise himself as a brave Mid-tier mage helping Bo City resist the demons—while failing his mission—was amusing. His smile likely masked his internal anguish.

As the night rain ceased, a faint light emerged from the horizon, breaking the darkness like the dawn.

The crowd stood in awe, gazing at the sky, unable to recover from their emotions. They didn't pursue the retreating wolves into the wilderness. Chasing desperate foes was unwise, especially given their exhaustion. Besides, demons couldn't be eradicated entirely.

Humanity occupied less than 1% of the world. Protecting Bo City was achievement enough.

Zhan Kong, unscathed but soaked, looked at the retreating green-black tide covering the mountains and valleys. He muttered, "This battle has earned Bo City at least ten years of peace."

Until new wolf packs migrated to the South Ridge, the city would remain secure.

Once the initial excitement passed, the group began tallying casualties. Sadness replaced many of the smiles.

Most casualties occurred at the border outposts, where soldiers perished during the first wave. Later reinforcements minimized additional losses. Still, the aftermath remained troublesome.

As daylight brightened, countless black dots approached from the distance—Heavenly Eagles speeding toward them. These rare mounts, trained by the military, signaled reinforcements. Each eagle carried a Mid-tier mage.

Zhan Kong was busy coordinating with the reinforcements and accounting for losses.

After some time, he approached Lu Jun and Lu Mei with a heavy heart. Sweeping his gaze over them, he solemnly said, "I've already heard about Bai Yang. We will investigate thoroughly."

Pausing, he continued sincerely, "We owe you both gratitude. None of us expected the Black Vatican to be so deeply hidden, nor did we anticipate the wolf packs nearly toppling Bo City."

"There's no need for thanks. I was just protecting myself." Lu Jun waved his hand nonchalantly and joked, "I'm a hunter, you know what that means—let's talk about real rewards instead of empty words."

"Hahaha, you brat." Zhan Kong laughed heartily. "If anyone's deeply hidden, it's you. Even the Black Vatican doesn't know where they slipped up. Two elements at the Mid-tier... impressive."

"Don't worry; there will be rewards. Bo City won't let its heroes bleed without compensation. Here's a hint: it's at least this much."

He held up two fingers.

Understanding, Lu Jun realized the reward exceeded 20 million yuan. Combined with his savings, he could now afford a high-quality Spirit Seed for his sister.

As military forces stayed behind, most civilian mages began withdrawing to Bo City to reunite with their families. Cheers and laughter filled the air.

At some point, Zhan Kong called Mo Fan and Lu Jun to a meeting in the Silver Trading Building. Mu Zhuoyun, Mu Ningxue, and the Mu Clan members were present as well.

Looking at the two young geniuses, Zhan Kong's expression twitched. "So, you're telling me you consumed the Holy Spring and advanced to the Mid-tier?"

Mo Fan chuckled sheepishly. "I couldn't let the Black Vatican take it. Besides, I was supposed to absorb it over a week, but given the circumstances, I had to improvise."

"Fine." Zhan Kong waved it off. "Better consumed than stolen. It wasn't holding much energy anyway."

The Mu Clan brothers' faces darkened. Though the spring was nominally shared among Bo City's factions, it had long been monopolized by the Mu Clan. Its loss hit them hardest.

Bad news kept coming. Zhan Kong hesitated before adding, "After this battle, Bo City will be restructured into a military fortress. Due to internal Black Vatican corruption, the higher-ups decided on a complete overhaul. All leaders will undergo investigations."

The Mu Clan protested, but it was futile. While ordinary civilians would benefit from increased safety, large factions like the Mu Clan faced significant losses as their land was nationalized.

Lu Jun observed silently. Bo City's development would now be limited, and the Mu Clan would likely relocate.

For most, however, things diverged greatly from the original trajectory. The rain was no longer a symbol of despair but a testament to unity and defense.

Most buildings were intact, requiring only cleaning rather than rebuilding.

Before leaving, Lu Jun and Lu Mei received their rewards: 30 million yuan in total, shared equally with Tang Yue.

News outlets began reporting on Bo City's disaster. Lu Jun was invited for an anonymous interview, ensuring his identity remained protected from the Black Vatican.

The disaster had gone viral online, sparking nationwide discussions and charity drives. Humanity's unity shone brightly.

Lu Jun felt reassured. His performance likely caught the attention of Hua, the nation's leader. With this recognition, he had gained a solid backing.
