Kai was extremely suspicious of Shuzen–he had just corrupted an S-rank beast, something that could completely challenge the Lord's power in time, and yet he left Kai alone.
There was no increase in the pressure on his neck, no threatening tone of malice from Shuzen. In fact, he had given his own form of endearment, calling Kai by his name. Maybe it was just because, after finally gaining a taste of true power, Kai was beginning to be seen as an equal–at least enough to be called his name instead of just boy or elf.
Kai shook his head, knowing that wasn't it. He refused to believe that Shuzen had such an innocent reason as respect. Whatever Shuzen was hiding, Kai would find out.
For now, though, he had to get the damned monkeys.
With his new nose it was easy to find their scent, but it proved to be nearly impossible for him to distinguish said scent. Millions of different odors collided with his nose as if fighting for attention.
