After leaving the tent of the Matron of Korl, everyone felt somewhat disheartened. According to the Matron, the curse afflicting them was nearly impossible to lift, and the existence of the Demon-Horned Lone Wolf was so rare that it was almost unknown. Her knowledge stemmed from a distant past when a group of Minotaurs, while hunting, inadvertently killed a Demon-Horned Lone Wolf, resulting in their lives being entwined with this curse.
She had studied this matter extensively during her time as the tribe's shaman to help those Minotaurs, and although she discovered a potential solution, the unfortunate Minotaurs had already lost all their strength by that time, rendering it too late for any remedy. Thus, the validity of her proposed method remained untested, and with the passage of time, many details had faded from her memory, necessitating some time to recollect the precise steps of her findings.
She informed Riven and the others that if they trusted her, they could temporarily reside in the tribe for a few days while she recalled the specifics of the curse's lifting.
"Ah... what bad luck! Here I am, Captain Teemo, with a lifetime of glory, having weathered countless storms, only to find myself capsized in a small creek. Oh, what a blunder!" Teemo lamented while seated on the grass, shaking his head in dismay.
Yet, his eternally cheerful visage, paired with such a melancholic tone, invoked an irresistible urge to laugh among those nearby. And when laughter struck, it was a delightful habit of the two women beside him, one tall and one small...
"Pfft... Hahaha..."
"Hehe... The little kitty is so adorable, still acting cute at a time like this, hehe..."
The two women laughed unabashedly, their joyous mirth causing Captain Teemo's expression to sour.
"How rude! You human women are truly impolite," Teemo exclaimed in frustration. "What do you mean by 'acting cute'? Huh? Where am I being cute? It's not my fault I look adorable! I was being completely serious when I said those things!"
Not far from the small village of the Minotaurs, a crystal-clear stream wound its way through, meandering towards the lush oasis of the jungle, forming a crescent-shaped bay. The riverbank was adorned with verdant grass, and they sat there, basking in the gentle warmth of the spring sun.
However, in stark contrast to the three who were laughing and playing, the solitary figure of a man sitting quietly to the side appeared cold and taciturn.
"Um... Mr. Mu Yu, are you still worried about the curse?" Riven inquired, glancing at the silent man who had remained mute since leaving the Matron's tent. "It's alright; didn't the Matron say she has a way? You don't need to fret, and even if you keep frowning, our curse won't simply vanish, right? So I believe it would be better for us to be a bit more cheerful."
"Perhaps a positive outlook might even aid in alleviating our curse... Isn't it often said that if a person is ill, maintaining an optimistic mindset can enhance their chances of recovery? Perhaps our curse is no different... So, don't overthink it; worrying won't change anything."
A cold gaze flicked towards Riven as Xiao Mu Yu replied icily, "I... am not contemplating the curse."
"Huh? Not thinking about the curse?" Riven responded, puzzled by Xiao Mu Yu's words. The silver-haired woman tilted her head, pondering, "Then what are you thinking about? Is there something else troubling you aside from the curse? Um... If it's not too much trouble, could you share it with me? Perhaps I can help, after all, many hands make light work."
"Yes, yes! Brother Mu Yu, if you have any difficulties, just say so, and Annie will help you too!" the little girl chimed in eagerly.
"Well... since you're my temporary companion, you might as well share any troubles you have. As your captain, I will graciously assist you," Teemo proclaimed, crossing his arms like a nobleman.
"..." With a detached glance at the inquisitive Teemo and Annie, Xiao Mu Yu finally spoke, his tone serious, "Riven, what I am about to say is of utmost importance, so... you must think carefully before answering me, for... what I am about to say will determine the circumstances we will soon face."
Affected by Xiao Mu Yu's solemnity, Riven, who had been smiling, straightened her slender posture, her playful demeanor fading as she replied earnestly, "Please, go ahead!"
"..." Their cold gazes locked, Xiao Mu Yu continued, "Riven, we... should marry."
"..."
Riven was taken aback, as were the two little ones...
Under Xiao Mu Yu's icy stare, the silver-haired woman's face flushed crimson. In a fluster, she waved her hand, "Um... perhaps I misheard you... Mr. Mu Yu, what did you just say? Could you... uh, could you repeat that?"
Silently observing the flustered woman before him, Xiao Mu Yu coldly reiterated, "Riven, we... should marry."
Xiao Mu Yu spoke clearly, each word enunciated distinctly, and only then did the three present realize that their ears had not deceived them...
But... what a bewildering turn of events! Captain Teemo wore an expression akin to a pet that had been thoroughly perplexed, his eyes wide in disbelief, utterly unable to comprehend the unfolding situation.
Is this what they call a proposal? But... who proposes so bluntly? Without any preamble? Could this fellow be an utter fool?
As these thoughts crossed his mind, the married Captain Teemo glanced at the icy man beside him, who had maintained this frosty demeanor since their meeting.
He mused to himself that this cold-hearted individual might have a mind filled with ice as well.
In stark contrast to Teemo's leisurely observation of the scene, the little girl was furious.
Like a wife betrayed by her husband, the small child clutched Xiao Mu Yu's arm, tears streaming down her face, "Big brother... you... you... wuwuwu..."
With one hand tightly gripping Xiao Mu Yu, as if fearing he might vanish at any moment, the little girl wiped her tears with the other, "Big brother... wuwu... you don't want Annie anymore? Wuwu..."
The little girl's weeping made Riven's already flushed face grow even more embarrassed. She fidgeted with the hem of her clothing, lowering her gaze in distress.
Her bewildered eyes wandered aimlessly over the grass, "Um... why did you suddenly say that? We... we've only known each other for about a month; isn't this development a bit too fast... Ah! Of course, I'm not rejecting you; I am genuinely happy you said that, but..."
"But our relationship hasn't progressed to that point yet... Ah... please don't misunderstand, I am indeed happy that you proposed, but your sudden declaration leaves me quite troubled... No, no, that's not to say I disagree... Um... in any case..."
After a flurry of disjointed words, seemingly realizing her inability to articulate her thoughts, Riven cautiously raised her head to meet Xiao Mu Yu's gaze, nervously asking, "Um... after all I've said, did... did you understand?"
"..." Coldly observing the flustered silver-haired woman before him, Xiao Mu Yu glanced down at the little girl clinging to his arm, sobbing inconsolably. He brushed back his hair indifferently.
His pitch-black eyes closed, then opened...
Xiao Mu Yu coldly asked, "What... did I just say?"
"Huh?" In an instant, the little girl's cries ceased, and Riven froze in place...
Captain Teemo stared at Xiao Mu Yu in disbelief, a hint of anger creeping into his voice, "You... are you trying to play dumb? Didn't you just propose to Riven? What? Now you want to back out? Huh?!"
"Although Riven isn't very well-liked in Noxus, and her demeanor is rather rough, and despite her having personally broken the legs of dozens of Noxian nobles, and being dubbed 'the most difficult woman to marry in Noxus'... since you proposed, you must follow through! A man who breaks his word is the worst kind of scoundrel! Uh... Riven, why are you looking at me like that? I'm just trying to help you!"
As Captain Teemo reached the end of his tirade, he noticed Riven glaring at him with a mixture of anger and despair, as if she felt all hope was lost. A chill ran down his spine, prompting him to instinctively step back.
After scrutinizing the silent Xiao Mu Yu, he thought to himself that he hadn't said anything wrong; after all, he was merely stating the truth. Yet, why did Riven seem so displeased?
Meanwhile, the little girl, who had been crying in Xiao Mu Yu's embrace, was now equally stunned. She glanced at the older girl, who was blushing with embarrassment, forgetting to wipe her tears, "Riven sister... you... you are the legendary commander of the Third Legion of Noxus, Tyrus's immortal witch? Um... I always thought you were an old lady."
