Strength—power coursed through every part of Evan Li's body!
Feeling renewed energy in all his limbs, he noticed a black bracelet had quietly appeared on his wrist: the Knight Spider suit in its dormant state. Along with it, a wave of knowledge about Web Shooters appeared in his mind.
Yet he dismissed the Web Shooters as unnecessary—after all, he could take off whenever he wanted.
Just then, Gwen placed a hand over her chest, looking slightly unsettled.
"Gwen, are you alright?" Jessica asked, noticing her discomfort.
"I suddenly felt my heart race," Gwen replied, frowning.
"Is everything okay with your health?" Jessica asked, concerned. She nudged Evan. "Don't just sit there, big brother—help her!"
Evan put an arm around Gwen, wondering if his own Spider Telepathy had somehow affected her.
"Gwen, do you need to go to the hospital?" he asked gently. "I can drive you to Presbyterian Hospital—Dr. Strange is a friend of mine, and he could arrange an immediate check-up."
"Um…" Gwen hesitated, recalling how she'd gained her abilities. It had happened during her summer internship at Oscorp. She'd been bitten by a spider in a lab, and shortly after, she'd discovered her powers. Now, she wondered if there could be any side effects.
Seeing her hesitation, Evan reassured her, "A check-up might put your mind at ease."
Then, without further ado, he picked her up bridal-style. "No need to be formal. Let's go!"
"Hey, Evan, I'm fine—you really don't have to carry me," Gwen said, both amused and exasperated. The powerful "Ghost Spider" was being treated like a damsel!
At Presbyterian Hospital, a car that looked cooler than a sports car pulled up at the entrance, and Evan, Gwen, and Jessica stepped out. Coming to this prestigious hospital for a check-up was perhaps over the top, but Evan's connections allowed it.
"Do we even have an appointment?" Jessica asked.
"We don't need one, Jess," Evan replied, leading them inside. The hospital staff seemed to recognize him and didn't stop them.
"Oh, the great artist himself! To what do I owe this visit? Cut yourself on a scraper?" a man with a neatly trimmed beard greeted him.
It was Stephen Strange, currently one of New York's top surgeons and the future Sorcerer Supreme. His personality was every bit as bold as Tony Stark's.
Evan, on good terms with him, sat down casually.
"Save the jokes, Stephen. I texted you," Evan replied.
"Already handled," Strange said, sliding a paper across the table. "Here's the form. Just take it to the front desk for registration."
Evan passed it to Jessica. "Take Gwen for her check-up. I'll stay here and chat with Dr. Strange for a bit."
Jessica gave him a playful look. "You'd rather sit here with a guy than go with Gwen? You're so oblivious, Evan."
"Jess, come on," Gwen said, pulling her away, face red.
Evan watched them go, a bit amused. Choosing to stay here with Strange wasn't about shirking—he was hoping to trigger a mission and maybe score a "Sorcerer Supreme" template.
"You know, I'm technically working," Strange said, though he was already pouring them coffee.
"Last time I passed Sunnyvale Manor, I thought about grabbing one of your paintings, but the gate was locked," Strange said. "You not living there anymore?"
"I moved back to the Lower East Side. The manor was too quiet," Evan replied. "But if you like it, you're welcome to stay there."
"Right, and then when you want the place back for a date, you'll just kick me out?"
"Exactly. Good guess, Stephen—no prize, though."
Strange rolled his eyes, then glanced in the direction Gwen and Jessica had gone. "Don't tell me you moved back just because of those two."
"Maybe," Evan replied with a shrug.
"They're both adults, right?" Strange teased, eyebrow raised. "I'm not covering for you."
"…"
