章節 276: Chapter 276: The Direction of War

"This first conference will not influence the battlefield itself; the fully mechanical war will be judged by the AI Kunpeng based on the upcoming scenarios," Yan Xia communicated through high-speed transmission technology to understand the progress of the meeting.

If this conference does not affect the war, then why gather the scholars?

The first reason was to help everyone adapt to this format, allowing for more meetings in the future. The first gathering is often vague and confusing, but familiarity would develop over time.

The second reason was to observe whether there were significant differences in judgment between the scholars and the AI regarding the war. Such differences could lead to various outcomes, determining whether the federation could confidently entrust the war to the AI.

"Is there really nothing we can learn from this conference?" Ella asked.

Indeed, every war faced by the federation was immensely important, and this particular conflict was as chaotic as described by the first scholar at the meeting.

This chaos could bring many negative impacts to the federation.

Yan Xia pondered for a moment before shaking his head. "The gap between our federation and Olive Branch Civilization is all-encompassing; we must recognize this clearly."

"We cannot take large strides, as any gains from doing so would be meaningless."

There's a saying that if you dabble in everything, you end up mastering nothing. Similarly, if a war yields only bits of information, it equates to having learned nothing at all.

The AI has its advantages; once a command is issued, it executes it perfectly without any ambiguity. This reliability is crucial for achieving singular objectives.

"That is indeed true," Ella nodded in agreement.

In fact, if one were to look closely, they would realize that Ella's and Yan Xia's roles had somewhat reversed; typically, Yan Xia would pose questions while Ella would provide answers. However, this dynamic had shifted long ago.

In the 21st century, humans asked machines questions because machines tended to have simpler thought processes.

Now, however, Ella's reasoning was more complex compared to commands. It was akin to asking a machine a question and receiving countless different answers; ultimately, it was still humans who made decisions.

At present, Ella had already analyzed issues into numerous potential answers before Yan Xia even posed his question—he merely confirmed what had already been deduced.

"What is the current status of the war?" Yan Xia inquired.

Ella responded, "Kunpeng has destroyed several stars and used the resulting interstellar dust from these explosions to obscure a star system while simultaneously collecting this dust to manufacture more warships. This will buy it some time."

"Its judgment is to develop within that area without advancing deeper into Olive Branch Civilization's star domain."

"After all, our primary objective remains obtaining information on Olive Branch Civilization's long-range weapons rather than engaging in close-quarters battles."

Kunpeng's basic judgment skills were still intact; however, Yan Xia could not fully relax his guard.

"The federation's Fourth Legion is now heading towards the end of the Silk Road for wartime preparations."

"The new AI Kj should be nearing completion. While you intend for it to assist you as a subordinate AI, I believe it's essential for there to be an AI managing affairs at the end of the Cosmic Silk Road."

"We should concentrate our resources at that endpoint. Before completing the super-conduction device, we need to prepare substantial materials for transport there."

"The scale of warfare currently isn't that large; everyone is still in a phase of mutual probing. This presents us with a precious opportunity."

"Taking advantage of this moment, we must lay down a significant number of long-range weapons since this remains a shortcoming for us."

Within the federation, long-range weapons were scarce; counting everything together amounted to fewer than 40 units across two star systems, most being basic laser long-range weaponry.

In this regard, the federation was at an absolute disadvantage.

The reason for dispatching Kunpeng into Olive Branch Civilization's star domain was precisely that—to draw their attention while using that time to set up defenses.

War inherently involves numerous factors to consider; thus Yan Xia could not simply rely on insights from meetings to make corresponding changes. Any alterations needed to occur before hostilities began—not after—otherwise it would only worsen the situation.

...

The conversation between Yan Xia and Ella was far from over.

However, Kunpeng's war efforts faced difficulties.

Olive Branch Civilization had dispatched a large fleet to intercept Kunpeng's deployed warships. Naturally, these ships were annihilated while Olive Branch's vessels surged directly toward Kunpeng's position.

The number of Olive Branch ships exceeded 70,000—a force capable of completely overwhelming Kunpeng.

Things rarely unfold according to script.

"Assessing enemy fleet strength at three times ours; our chances of victory stand at 0.7%."

"The best outcome would be an immediate retreat so that Olive Branch's ships cannot catch up."

The distance between both fleets remained considerable; even if Olive Branch's ships moved quickly, catching up would take several hundred years at least.

"Guerrilla tactics are being employed; while this strategy avoids total annihilation risks, it contradicts our mission objectives."

"Analysis indicates that only after our fleet has destroyed theirs will they perceive us as a threat and deploy their long-range weapons en masse."

Guerrilla warfare would ultimately devolve into a chase-and-fight scenario; if they gained an upper hand afterward, there would be no need for them to commit further resources.

Long-range weapons consumed significant energy; otherwise, after destroying the Cosmic Silk Road, Olive Branch Civilization wouldn't have remained dormant for so many years—evidence that their "Bloom of Destruction" weapon had required considerable recovery time.

Its destructive radius could exceed 100 light-years—completely upending federation understanding.

"Engaging in direct combat…"

"No optimal solutions or winning strategies found…"

"System thinking encountered conflicts; conflict resolution underway—1%...3%…"

At this moment, Kunpeng felt like an artificial intelligence malfunctioning. Yet there was no other option; this was inherently an extremely unfair war—even with one hundred AIs calculating outcomes would yield similar results.

But warfare dynamics are never purely about numerical strength disparities.

"New model integration underway…"

"New model calculations initiated; 3,283 plans generated—selecting plan SDK-28.11 for execution with ideal win probability at 95.12%, non-ideal state win probability at 0.0024%."

Only by taking on sufficient risks in warfare can one hope for desired outcomes.

This was what both Ella and Yan Xia wished to see from their AI's evolution.
