I wandered through the streets, my mind swirling with a thousand thoughts. It was sad that what should have been a happy occasion in my life had turned into a huge cause for worry. And the worst part? Eason didn’t seem to take it seriously.

How hard would it be for him to not joke about it? Couldn’t he see how worried I was?

I found myself in front of a supermarket, the bright lights and bustling crowd offering a strange sort of comfort. I needed to distract myself from the spiraling anxiety wrapping its deadly fingers around my neck. I took a deep breath as I entered, the cool air brushing against my skin when my phone buzzed in my pocket.

I glanced at the screen to see Zara’s name and answered quickly. “Hey...” I trailed off, not bothering to hide my mood.

“Lena! I’ve been trying to reach you. How did the appointment go?” Her voice was filled with genuine concern, but I could already feel the irritation bubbling inside me at the memory.
