60% Stepmother to the Third Protagonist / Chapter 18: Exhibition

章節 18: Exhibition

In the afternoon, Yang Liu arrived at Han Wei's school, her heart brimming with anticipation as she prepared to pick him up. As she stepped through the school gate, she spotted Mrs. Su, the teacher, who waved her over with a warm smile.

"Yang Liu!" Mrs. Su called out, beckoning her for a chat.

Yang Liu nodded and walked toward her, ruffling Han Wei's hair gently as she said, "Wait for a few minutes. I'll talk to your teacher and be right back."

"Okay!" Han Wei agreed, his face lighting up as he settled down in the classroom.

Stepping outside, Yang Liu asked Mrs. Su, "What would you like to discuss?"

Mrs. Su's expression brightened. "Well, Han Wei has been doing really well at school. He's even made some friends! However, we'd love to see you and your husband more involved in the activities."

Surprised, Yang Liu thought for a moment before responding, "Of course! How can I help?"

Mrs. Su smiled warmly, "That's wonderful to hear! Soon, we'll be hosting an art fair at the school. The goal is to showcase paintings made by parents and their children. It would be fantastic if you could participate with Han Wei."

Yang Liu paused, recalling her earlier conversation with Butler Ling about her love for painting. A mischievous smile spread across her face as she said, "That won't be a problem. When do you need it by?"

"The exhibition is in three days," Mrs. Su replied.

Yang Liu quickly calculated when Han Chen would return from his trip and laughed. "Perfect! My husband and I will definitely participate."

Somewhere in the United States, Han Chen sneezed unexpectedly, raising an eyebrow as he muttered to himself, "Is someone talking bad about me?"

Back at the school, Yang Liu picked up Han Wei and excitedly shared what Mrs. Su had said. His eyes widened with enthusiasm as he asked, "Do you think Dad will join us?"

Without a second thought, Yang Liu proudly replied, "Of course! I'll convince him." They both burst into laughter, a conspiratorial glint in their eyes as they plotted how to make it happen.

Meanwhile, the driver watched the scene unfold and muttered to himself, "Poor boss…"

Later that night, Yang Liu was cozily settled in her room, watching TV, when a gentle knock sounded on the door.

"Come in," she called out.

Han Wei peeked through the door, his pajamas slightly askew, and shyly asked, "Can I sleep with you?"

Yang Liu was taken aback by the sudden request but quickly replied with a smile, "Of course!" She patted the bed invitingly, her heart swelling at the thought of sharing this moment with him.

Han Wei ran over, climbed into bed, and pulled the covers over himself, snuggling close to her. Yang Liu couldn't help but laugh at how adorable he looked, thinking, "He's so cute."

As she cuddled with him, Yang Liu suddenly remembered the presents she had bought for Han Chen and Han Wei. "Han Wei, wait a minute!" she exclaimed, jumping out of bed.

She hurried over to the wardrobe, retrieving two carefully wrapped gifts. Placing a brown box on the nightstand, she carried a larger box back to the bed for Han Wei.

His eyes widened in surprise as he exclaimed, "What is this?"

With a warm smile, Yang Liu encouraged, "Open it! I hope you like it."

Eagerly, Han Wei tore open the wrapping and revealed a stunning dragon figurine. His face lit up with joy, and he enveloped her in a tight hug, whispering, "Thank you!"

Yang Liu's heart swelled with happiness at his delight, feeling a sense of fulfillment seeing him so pleased.

After a moment of silence, Han Wei looked up at her with wide, innocent eyes and asked, "Can I call you Mom?"

Yang Liu's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected question. She was taken aback for a moment, but as she gazed into his bright, hopeful eyes, she found herself unable to refuse.

Noticing that she hadn't declined, Han Wei's face broke into a wide smile as he whispered, "Mom," before slowly drifting off to sleep.

Yang Liu found the scene heartwarming, wrapping her arms around him and feeling a sense of peace envelop them both. She soon fell asleep too, forgetting the gift she had placed on the nightstand, which still bore the tag with Han Wei's name written on it.

While the mother and son slept peacefully, miles away, Han Chen lay awake, tossing and turning, already too accustomed to the comforting presence of a certain someone by his side.
