It was another bright, sunny day in Konoha Village. The streets bustled with energy, vibrant with life and the constant hum of business. Ever-growing and thriving, the village had become a symbol of prosperity, and at the heart of this transformation was none other than Naruto Uzumaki, the 7th Hokage. Sitting in his office, the legendary leader glanced over a pile of paperwork, but his eyes were fixated on one particular report. His expression shifted between amusement and frustration.
"Shikamaru... what in the world is this?!" Naruto's voice echoed through the Hokage office, a mix of disbelief and irritation coloring his tone.
Shikamaru, standing by the window with his arms crossed, sighed, keeping his voice calm and pragmatic as usual. "Stop yelling, Naruto. It's just a set of numbers. We can still—"
Before Shikamaru could finish, Naruto cut him off. "He's missed every day of the Shinobi Academy! Every single one! Even I wasn't this bad," Naruto added, his eyes narrowing slightly, but a hint of admiration crept into his voice. He couldn't help but feel some connection—this kid was nearly as much of a troublemaker as he'd been at that age.
Shikamaru rubbed his temples, exasperated. "That's exactly the problem," he said, handing over a chart filled with data. "Look at this. Despite missing all the classes, he's aced every theoretical and practical exam. He shows up only for tests, then disappears. He's basically avoiding all the training sessions." Shikamaru paused, his brow furrowing. "In other words..." he trailed off, but Naruto didn't need him to finish.
A quiet understanding passed between them. This kid reminded Naruto of Sasuke, or rather, Sasuke's relentless drive to train beyond the system's limits, pushing himself even when no one was watching.
Naruto leaned back in his chair, tapping his finger against the desk thoughtfully. "In a peaceful time like this, that kind of determination is rare, maybe even good… but…" He stared at the report, knowing that the situation wasn't as simple. Stopping a student from training because the Academy couldn't keep up with him? That didn't sit well with Naruto. He'd never been one to put barriers in front of those who wanted to grow stronger.
Naruto's eyes flicked to the calendar hanging on the wall. March 1st. He sat up straighter, an idea suddenly forming. "Alright, I've got it. We'll graduate him early," Naruto declared with a confident nod.
Shikamaru raised an eyebrow, pausing for a moment. "Huh… weird for you to have a brain," he said with a smirk, though his tone was lighthearted. "But I'm fine with it. The kid's only a year younger than most of the current Genin anyway."
With a lazy wave, Shikamaru handed Naruto a folder before heading for the door. "Have fun with that. I'm off to see my wife. Unlike you, I actually make time for my family." His tone was teasing, but Naruto couldn't help but laugh at the jab.
"Yeah, yeah. Get out of here," Naruto replied, grinning.
As the door clicked shut behind Shikamaru, Naruto's smile faded slightly, and he turned his attention to the folder. His eyes scanned the contents, and after a moment, his expression shifted from casual curiosity to shock.
"Oh… wow…" he muttered under his breath.
The profile inside belonged to the student in question. He had black hair, a typical trait in Konoha, but his eyes—Naruto's gaze snapped to the medical section of the report.
"Permanent retinal damage?" Naruto whispered to himself. The photos attached showed the boy wearing bandages or gauze over his eyes in every shot. He looked healthy, maybe a bit thin and pale, but otherwise fine. Naruto furrowed his brow, intrigued.
"Why would someone with such an impairment be so determined?" he thought. He closed the folder, reaching for a pen. If this kid was truly serious about his training, Naruto knew just the person who could help assess him. A slight grin crept onto his face.
"I'm sure Konohamaru won't mind helping me out with a little testing…" he mused aloud, already planning his next steps.

[Auther: While I have a lot I can say about Boruto, in case you don't know. Kishimoto was forced to make it, it's a blatant cash grab, that's why it's so bad. It's a shame, first Akira, now Kishimoto...hopefully Kubo and Oda stay safe.]
