The Wall of Origin was an incredibly complex concept, one that even Kara found troublesome to delve into. For now, there was no possibility of her coming into contact with it, but the Asgardians claimed that Kara's patron originated from beyond the Wall of Origin—or from "outside."
"The Wall of Origin?" Kara echoed, feeling a flicker of curiosity. If her patron truly hailed from such an extraordinary place, the events of the day didn't seem so outlandish anymore.
When it came to the mysteries of the Wall of Origin, the Asgardians were notoriously secretive. Even among their kind, information about it was scarce and closely guarded.
"Since we haven't directly encountered the Wall of Origin, there's no need to dwell on it now," Kara concluded. She knew that delving too deeply into such topics was futile, especially when the knowledge was beyond the reach of most mortals—or even Asgardians.
The immediate concern was far more pressing. Kara shifted her attention back to Earth, particularly to the giant octopus-like entity wreaking havoc: the Parallax Demon.
Technically, it could no longer be called a mere "Parallax Monster." Originally, a Parallax Monster was a manifestation of fear, parasitic in nature, and tied to the Yellow Lantern Corps. However, this creature had taken on a more sinister form, deserving of its new title as a Parallax Demon.
In the lore of the Lantern Corps, each emotional spectrum had its own corresponding "Lantern Beast." These entities were incredibly dangerous and capable of parasitizing hosts:
The Yellow Lantern Beast, Parallax, fed on fear and created Parallax Monsters. The Red Lantern Beast, the Butcher, fueled rage and created Red Lantern avatars. The Orange Lantern Beast, Ophidian, embodied avarice and produced agents of greed. The Green Lantern Beast, Ion, symbolized willpower and created Ion Warriors. The Blue Lantern Beast, Adara, represented hope and empowered healers and guardians. The Indigo Lantern Beast, Proselyte, embodied compassion and formed Predators. The Violet Lantern Beast, the Predator, harnessed love, often dangerously.
Additionally, the White Lantern and Black Lantern Corps had their own unique beasts:
The White Lantern Beast, the Entity, represented life itself. The Black Lantern Beast, Nekron, symbolized death and created undead avatars.
Kara was fortunate that her connection to the Lantern Rings did not require direct interaction with these beasts. She could wield the power of the rings freely without risking parasitic possession.
Relieved, Kara decided she had no reason to be overly concerned about the Parallax Demon reducing her to nothingness with a single attack.
Having received a satisfactory explanation from the Asgardians, Kara's hostility eased. Their earlier actions had led her to believe they might have played a role in Krypton's destruction. However, she learned that Krypton had nearly obliterated the Asgardians in the past, forcing them into retreat.
The Asgardians, despite their boasts, had once allied with the Lantern Corps—an alliance that fell apart during Krypton's reign of power. Even without Krypton, their forces suffered devastating losses when they clashed with Apocalypse.
Kara bid the Asgardians farewell and returned to Earth to join Hal Jordan.
"You don't want someone to train you in using the Lantern Ring?" Hal asked with concern.
"No need," Kara replied with a wave of her hand.
She hadn't planned to rely on the Lantern Rings much, except to traverse outer space. The Green Lantern Ring allowed its bearer to survive in space, but Kara found herself mastering its functionality almost instinctively.
The Green Lantern Ring, she learned, could transform willpower into physical constructs. The stronger one's will, the more powerful and durable the constructs became—a manifestation of pure idealism. Kara found the concept simple enough.
Other rings held different powers tied to their emotional spectrums, and Kara decided she'd study them if and when it suited her interests.
Focusing her will, Kara raised her left hand, using the Green Lantern Ring to open a portal. The shimmering doorway led directly to Hal's house on Earth.
Hal followed Kara through the portal, marveling at how seamlessly they had traveled from Oa back to his living room. Hours had passed during their time off-world.
Noticing the empty house, Kara picked up the telephone and dialed Dani's number.
"Kara? You're finally back! Thank goodness! Where were you and Hal?" Dani's voice was a mixture of relief and curiosity.
Kara chuckled at Dani's enthusiasm. "An alien planet. I'll explain everything when I see you. By the way, where are you now? That giant octopus hasn't shown up again, has it?"
"No, but my boss and I are reporting everything to the higher-ups," Dani replied. "We're deciding how to handle the situation moving forward. Don't worry—I haven't mentioned you to anyone."
Kara sighed. Dani's new job dealing with extraterrestrial phenomena was a perfect fit for her adventurous spirit, but it made Kara uneasy. "Be careful, Dani," she warned.
After ending the call, Kara dialed Clark Kent.
"Clark, have you noticed anything unusual?" she asked.
"Yes," Clark replied gravely. "Something from outer space is approaching Earth. It's already within the solar system."
"Don't worry," Kara reassured him. "I'll handle it."
Clark hesitated, wanting to offer his help. At twenty, he was eager to step out of Kara's shadow and prove himself. Kara, sensing his thoughts, added gently, "Clark, focus on finishing college. Once you graduate, you'll be free to choose your path. Just trust me for now, okay?"
"Alright," Clark said reluctantly. "But be careful."
Kara smiled, hanging up the phone. It was time to deal with the looming threat once and for all.
