章節 63: Chapter 63 (edited)

Before coming to Gotham City, Kara called Bruce.

Jennifer was her friend, and Kara knew that Jennifer had not forgotten Bruce after all these years. It was pure devotion.

With that in mind, Kara decided to help her friend as much as possible, though whether she succeeded or not remained uncertain.

After packing their things, Bruce arrived in a luxury car to meet them.

There's no need to question how wealthy Bruce is—just as there's no need to wonder how Iron Man could buy a building just to tear it down.

In Kara's opinion, Bruce looked especially striking after tidying up.

This guy, with his usual charm and carefully cultivated image of a carefree playboy, was undeniably rich, handsome, and radiated an air of mystery.

No wonder so many prominent women were drawn to him.

"On behalf of Gotham City, I personally welcome the arrival of the Chief Justice," Bruce said with grace and humor, addressing Jennifer.

Jennifer, however, seemed displeased. "I'd prefer if you called me by my name and welcomed me as an old classmate."

Bruce glanced at Kara.

Old classmate?

"Don't tell me you've forgotten our time back in college," Jennifer said, her shoulders slumping slightly.

She had spent so much time carefully preparing for this meeting, only to realize Bruce might not even remember her. It was a bit of a blow.

Kara shot Bruce a sharp look. "I only had two friends back then—Jennifer and Dani. Even if we were just classmates, forgetting someone as important as Jennifer is unacceptable."

Bruce slapped his forehead in mock realization. "My apologies. You know how hectic things get running Wayne Enterprises. Let me make it up to you with a well-prepared dinner."

Kara resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She knew perfectly well that Bruce had delegated most of his corporate responsibilities to Lucius Fox. He wasn't as busy as he claimed; he was just playing the part of the carefree billionaire.

Still, for Jennifer's sake, Kara let it slide.

Bruce ushered them into his car. Kara's car wasn't bad, but it paled in comparison to Bruce's ultra-luxurious sports car.

Kara couldn't help but grumble inwardly about Bruce's broken promise to let her drive the Batmobile. Then again, she had to admit driving it to work would probably be impractical.

What's more, as "Oracle," Kara had to maintain a low profile to keep her secret identity intact. It seemed she wouldn't get her hands on her promised reward anytime soon.

As they drove, Kara decided to tease Bruce a little. "I heard you burned down your family's ancestral manor after a drunken night. How's the rebuild going?"

Bruce glanced at Kara through the rearview mirror, clearly exasperated. He knew exactly where she had heard that rumor—it had been published under her byline.

Jennifer stifled a laugh, amused by Kara's antics.

Kara caught her expression and thought, Sister, when did you start acting so ladylike?

Jennifer rolled her eyes in response. The presence of her "dream guy" clearly required a certain level of decorum.

Kara's humor kept the atmosphere light, and soon, they arrived at an opulent hotel. The sheer grandeur of the place was enough to take anyone's breath away.

It boasted a sprawling courtyard, ornate fountains, and meticulously landscaped flowerbeds.

At the entrance, immaculately dressed doormen greeted guests, but one of them stopped Kara.

"Excuse me, miss, but your attire doesn't meet the dress code. I'm afraid I can't let you in."

Kara glanced down at her outfit: a simple shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Compared to the high-fashion ensembles around her, she did stand out.

She sighed and turned to Bruce. "Care to handle this?"

Jennifer whispered, "I told you to wear the $850 dress I brought. There's always a dress code for places like this."

Kara snorted. "Since when do restaurants get to pick their customers? Hypocritical nonsense."

Bruce's eyes sparkled with amusement, appreciating Kara's defiant attitude. It reminded him of a particularly memorable incident involving two supermodels and a pool in the middle of a party.

The hotel manager arrived, alerted by the commotion. "Miss, this is a high-end establishment. All our guests are required to adhere to the dress code out of respect for one another."

Kara nodded grudgingly. She had no strong retort; it was a fair point.

Bruce, however, stepped in with a grin. "I'm Bruce Wayne, and I own this hotel. She's my guest."

The manager's demeanor shifted immediately. "My apologies, Mr. Wayne. Please, come in."

Kara rolled her eyes. "MMP," she muttered under her breath. "So much for fair treatment."

And with that, they entered the lavish hotel, where the evening promised to be anything but boring.
