章節 36: Chapter 35

The reunion between Kara, Jennifer, and Dani didn't last long. Though they had lunch together, the conversation faded quickly.

The main reason was that everyone was too busy with their jobs, and it wasn't easy to find time to meet with Kara. Besides, her arrival had been sudden; she called her friends when her train was already arriving in Metropolis.

Later, they agreed to wait until their days off aligned to plan another meeting and spend some time together in the city. Kara also had her own things to take care of, such as finding a place to live.

Now that she had decided to work for the Daily Planet, she needed to find a place to stay. She couldn't fly home every night and return in the morning—that would be reckless and dangerous. Her adoptive father, Jonathan, wouldn't approve of something so risky.

To adjust quickly to her new routine, Kara found an apartment close to the Daily Planet and rented it right away. Money wasn't an issue for her; her parents had given her plenty. Besides, during her travels, she had discovered a gold mine and a vein of diamonds.

With her heat vision, Kara refined some gold bars and collected a number of diamonds. Despite having this wealth, she felt she couldn't just live a life of idleness—she needed a purpose, something to do, and working at the Daily Planet gave her that sense of meaning.

When Jonathan and Martha, her adoptive parents, saw the jewels, they were shocked. With that fortune, they could easily buy the farm, which was worth millions of dollars.

This discovery also highlighted a curious fact: just like Superman, Kara could use her super vision to easily detect underground mineral deposits and extract them without the need for machinery.

Later, Kara thought about the news Dani had mentioned regarding the Mother Box. Although it hadn't been activated yet, Kara didn't pay too much attention to it. She knew that Earth's current level of technology couldn't comprehend the true power of the Mother Box. Thus, Steppenwolf wouldn't show up immediately, and peace in Metropolis seemed guaranteed for a while.

That evening, Kara returned home to share with her family the good news that she had been accepted into the Daily Planet. She also told them about her intention to move permanently to Metropolis. Martha was a little reluctant at first, but Jonathan comforted her, reminding her that Kara was already grown up and, though she was moving out, she would always be welcome home.

"When are you planning to move?" Jonathan asked, curious about his daughter's plans.

"Tomorrow," Kara replied without hesitation. "I'll take some things over and set up the apartment before I start work."

Jonathan nodded, recognizing that she was right. Moving and starting work at the same time would be too chaotic.

"Then I'll help you with the move tomorrow," Jonathan offered.

Clark, her brother, also said, "I'm off tomorrow, so I can help too."

Seeing that her family supported her move, Martha sighed but finally agreed with a smile, saying, "Well, I'll help too."

"It's not like I'm leaving forever, Mom," Kara said, amused. "I'm not planning on getting married or disappearing anytime soon."

And so, the family began to plan Kara's move. Martha, though the most resistant at first, soon became the one most concerned about the details. If Kara hadn't stopped her, Martha might have even tried to bring her daughter's bed along, worried that she wouldn't sleep well in a new one.

"But, Mom, it's not like you're kicking me out. Where would I sleep when I come back?" Kara asked, a bit surprised.

Martha finally gave in.

"I don't need to take everything," Kara explained. "Just a bit of clothing and some essentials. I can buy whatever else I need there. I want to keep as much of my stuff at home as possible. I'll come back every now and then, even if it's just for a few days. Or do you not want me to come back?" she joked.

Jonathan and Martha felt relieved hearing this. Martha even playfully suggested, "Your dad could pick you up and drive you to work every day."

Jonathan, already feeling tired just imagining it, thought to himself, "I'm not that young anymore—can't they have a little mercy on me?"

The next morning, the family began to get ready for the move. Kara and Martha packed her belongings, Jonathan got the car ready, and Clark, with his super strength, took care of loading everything. Even though Kara was the strongest, what was the point of having a younger brother if not to ask for help?

Once everything was prepared, the family had a quick breakfast before heading to Metropolis. They made a stop in town to buy new sheets, pots, and other necessities that Kara would need. After shopping, there was barely any space left in the truck, but fortunately, Clark handled most of the heavy lifting.

The trip to Metropolis was still long, and they needed to return before nightfall. As they drove down the highway, Kara suddenly saw a flash of light in front of her eyes. Instinctively, she activated her super premonition and 'saw' a tornado forming on the road ahead. The worst part: her adoptive father, Jonathan, could die if she didn't act quickly.
