章節 21: Chapter 20

In the bathroom, Kara frantically memorized the contents of the five books that had suddenly split in her mind.

If the first book was just an introduction to magic, these five were advanced high-level magic books.

What many might not know is that Kryptonians don't reject or resist magical attributes. This means that if Kryptonians get the chance to come into contact with magical power, they can certainly learn it.

Kryptonians will even yield double the results with half the effort due to their incredible physical condition and mental fortitude—if they have the opportunity to master this power.

Another common misconception is that Superman's strength comes solely from his physical abilities, and that his resistance to magic is almost zero. This is definitely incorrect.

For example, many people have heard of the honey badger, an animal known for its high resistance to venom. Honey badgers can ignore the venom of even the world's deadliest snakes, casually eating them like spicy noodles. At most, they might fall into a temporary coma but can resume eating once they wake up.

Similarly, in the comics, Superman has been knocked out by magic numerous times but has only been in a coma for a while.

If that doesn't reflect magical resistance, let's consider his encounters with Wonder Woman. Most people who are bound by the Lasso of Truth are completely captured, but not Superman—it only weakens him slightly. There was even a time when Wonder Woman was corrupted, and Superman used the Lasso of Truth to bring her back to her senses.

All of these instances show that Kryptonians do have some magical resistance, but they don't inherently possess much magical power.

As for Mister Mxyzptlk, a constant troublemaker for Superman, he's a fifth-dimensional being—a creature so powerful and irrational that he can create things from nothing and rewrite reality at will. He's like a whimsical character with almost god-like abilities, similar to how Arale from the Dragon Ball world could defeat even Vegeta in a humorous, illogical scenario.

The setup for fifth-dimensional beings is essentially that they can change reality however they like without any real limitations. It's almost as if they could be the creators of the multiverse themselves, which feels a bit excessive. After all, Kara hasn't even begun to interact with fifth-dimensional beings.

Meanwhile, Kara had quickly absorbed all the content from the advanced magic books. For now, she only skimmed the material and would study it thoroughly later when she had time.

After mastering everything, the five magical books in her hands spontaneously caught fire and instantly turned to ash.

It turned out this was intentional.

Even the voice of the necromancer Shazam echoed in Kara's ears: "If you choose to burn the books after reading them, the next content will be revealed. If you wish to keep them, you'll only see the basic material."

The necromancer had organized everything carefully.

"You didn't disappoint me. If you choose to inherit my power, you can call upon 'Shazam' to return to this space at any time. I'll always be waiting for you."

Surprisingly, Shazam seemed to have great hopes for Kara.

But Kara smiled and shook her head. "Forget it. These powers to resist magic are enough."

Ultimately, her strength came from her Kryptonian bloodline, which was the foundation of her abilities. As long as she continued to grow and absorb sunlight, she would only get stronger.

She didn't need to beg for or borrow someone else's power. Kara didn't need magic as her main source of strength—all she required was a way to better resist the enemy's magical attacks.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door, followed by the concerned voices of Jennifer and Dani: "Kara? Are you okay? We're almost at the station."

They were worried since Kara had been in the bathroom for so long.

Kara snapped out of her thoughts, opened the door, and stepped out with a smile, facing her friends. "I've been a bit constipated lately, so I took a little longer. Are we almost there?"

Both Jennifer and Dani cringed, their faces showing slight disgust. "TMI," Jennifer muttered as they subconsciously imagined an unpleasant smell.

In reality, Kara hadn't used the bathroom but had instead been studying the magical books. If there were any scent from the books, it would have been something sweet and fragrant, not anything foul.

Kara laughed and mischievously reached out toward them, prompting Dani to grimace even more. "You didn't wash your hands, did you?"

How could she explain that her hands were sterilized by the flames from the five books that had spontaneously ignited?

"Enough! Just sit down already; we're almost at the station," Jennifer said, quickly retreating back to her seat, with Dani following close behind.

Kara, who lingered behind, wore a thoughtful expression. The advanced magic books had contained many interesting concepts, and she knew she could benefit greatly from this knowledge.

She even experienced her first premonition—an image of the future flashed before her eyes.

One day, there would be a crisis at the Rock of Eternity. The necromancer Shazam would die under unknown circumstances, disintegrating into dust. The Seven Deadly Sins, who had been sealed away, would become terrifying demons that would wreak havoc on the world, and Mister Mind, the parasitic worm, would also escape. Many magical realms could become unstable.

The next bearer of Shazam's power was just a fifteen-year-old boy, and such a responsibility would be too much for him to handle.

At that moment, Kara would have to step in. After all, she had accepted the necromancer's favor today, and now the old wizard had a hold over her, whether she liked it or not. She would be forced to help when the Seven Deadly Sins inevitably escaped.

Kara sighed, realizing that Shazam had trapped her in this responsibility. Regardless of whether she wanted to inherit his power, she would have to act when the time came.

But Kara had gained a lot from the experience.

"Fine," she muttered, no longer overthinking it. She accepted that one day, she would have to take on this responsibility. After all, she wanted to become a superhero in the future, and when the time came, she would definitely step up.

So there was no reason to worry.

Kara returned to her seat, joining her friends as they continued to chat cheerfully.

Soon after, the train reached its destination, arriving in Metropolis just before 10 a.m.

Metropolis was a bustling city, far more vibrant than their small town. It was even said that Metropolis and Gotham City were relatively close to each other, not too far apart.

Kara mused to herself, already deciding that she would not go to Gotham City in the future. No matter what, she wouldn't risk it—well, not without asking how much was at stake first.

The three girls embarked on their adventure, strolling through Metropolis. They visited the city's busiest shopping streets, wandering through various stores and being mesmerized by the dazzling variety of products.

They also visited the largest, most renowned cinema, where they discovered a wider array of films playing than they had ever seen before.

But what truly captured their interest was the amusement park.

Kara realized, however, that she wasn't particularly excited by roller coasters or other thrill rides.
