章節 13: Trap of Memories

The two walked down the path leading to the Primeval Highlands.

Gradually, the road became crowded with imaginary creatures, yet they did not attack. Instead, they stood on either side, allowing the pair to pass.

With each step forward, the creatures squeezed into the place they had just left, sealing off the path behind them.

There was no way back…

Beside him, Stelle face was full of worry. So many creatures—could they really escape?

Kevin noticed her unease and calmly reassured her, "Don't worry, if there's a chance, I'll make sure you get out first. I'll cover the rear."

"Hurry up. I can feel it… the presence is getting closer," Kevin urged.

They quickened their pace along the path the imaginary creatures had opened for them.

The road extended to a broken bridge. The two stopped, with a horde of imaginary creatures crowding behind them, blocking the way. They could only move forward…

"How do we cross?"

"Fly over," Kevin said casually.

"You have wings?" Stelle asked, shocked. She imagined Kevin sprouting chicken wings from his back, flapping wildly, lifting them into the air.

"Not at the moment…" Kevin shook his head.

"So, you used to have them?" Star pressed further.

"Not in this body, but I didn't need wings to fly. Unfortunately, this body only replicated part of my data…" Kevin explained.

"Then why talk about flying at all?"

Kevin didn't answer. Instead, he placed the Judgement of Destruction on the ground and stepped onto it.

"Who said you have to fly on your own?"

Stelle looked at Kevin's actions, confused. Kevin motioned toward her, "Stand in front of the sword."

"Why in front?"

"Because in a moment, it's going to shoot flames from the back. I don't want your clothes getting burned," Kevin explained.

"Are these clothes really modeled separately? Would they really burn away?" Stelle asked, puzzled.

"You can try it if you want."

Stelle tugged at her collar, peeking inside. They were indeed modeled separately. Still… why were Kevin's pecs bigger than hers?

"Are we going or not?" Kevin urged. This person was always dawdling.

"Coming, coming!"

Stelle stepped onto the front of Destruction. Kevin placed a hand on her shoulder to prevent her from falling off.

"Are you ready, Stelle?" Kevin asked.

"I'm ready~"

"Let's go."

Flames erupted from the hilt of Destruction, and with the force of a small rocket launcher, the two were propelled into the air.

Stelle marveled at Destruction many uses, peering down below.

The depths beneath them were pitch-black, bottomless. Stelle immediately stopped moving, too afraid to even turn her head. Falling from this height would leave nothing but dust.

"Big Brother Kevin~ Hold me tight, please. If we fall, we're both done for~"

[Kevin, I… don't want to die…]

The voice in her head mimicked Pardofelis tone.

"…"

Kevin was silent for a while before responding, "Alright…"

He tightened his grip on Stelle shoulder.

They landed on the other side of the bridge, but there were no imaginary creatures in sight. It seemed the creatures earlier had only been leading them, and now that they were near the end, no more guidance was needed.

Kevin looked toward their destination: the highest peak of this ring-shaped mountain range. A large, man-made cave was carved into the mountainside, with a few stone pillars standing at the entrance, obscuring whatever lay inside.

Who was waiting for him there? That familiar presence… Kevin had a guess as to who it might be.

But everything still needed to be confirmed. The two quickened their pace toward the end.

They stopped at the highest point of the Primeval Highlands.

What greeted them was a strange, blue-purple stone floor, creating an unsettling, chaotic atmosphere around them.

They crossed the blue-purple ground, passing through the massive stone pillars at the entrance to the cave.

Kevin paused. Something felt off—his sense of the presence was weakening.

Something wasn't right! An attack was coming!

Instinctively, Kevin pulled Stelle backward just as a sharp blade sliced past his cheek, embedding itself in the ground.

Looking up, they saw a black-and-gold mechanical creation. Its body was a massive clock face with a cross embedded in the middle. Gears spun where its legs connected to its body, with uneven blades jutting out from the back of its legs, resembling clock hands when viewed from the side.

Thanks to Kevin's quick reaction, they had dodged the blade. The machine was now struggling to pull out its stuck sword, giving Star a brief moment to joke.

"This thing… is a time management master, isn't it?" Stelle quipped, observing its appearance.

"Void Husk—Nihilism," Kevin introduced the creation.

"That's a mouthful," Stelle muttered. Couldn't they give it a simpler name?

[Just call it LZX.]

At that moment, the Void Husk pulled out its sword and swung it at them.

Kevin pulled Stelle back, dodging the first attack. Immediately, a phantom emerged from the Void Husk, replicating its earlier motion for a second strike.

Just as it was about to hit, Kevin swiftly sidestepped, avoiding the second attack.

Kevin pushed Stelle out of the battlefield, not wanting her to be caught in the ensuing fight. He needed to end this quickly—the longer this battle dragged on, the more troublesome it would become.

The Void Husk stabbed its massive sword into the ground, generating a time-slowing field.

Kevin quickly leaped into the air, positioning himself above the Void Husk. He raised his sword high, energy surging around him.

Judgement of Destruction—Zeroth power!

Flames engulfed the Void Husk from above, pinning it to the ground with immense force.

In one decisive strike, Destruction pierced through its body.

One blow was enough to shatter it!

The impact triggered its self-defense mechanism. A massive clock face descended from the air, shattering upon hitting the ground. The Void Husk fell into permanent stasis.

"I'm not wasting time with you," Kevin said, kicking the remains aside, still holding Destruction.

After waiting for a while, the expected exit didn't appear.

Stelle clutched her hair, despairing, "It's over! This time, we're really done for!"

Kevin shook his head. "Looks like I was right. That wasn't the boss."

"Huh? Then where's the boss?" Stelle immediately stopped her wailing.

"There's only one place we haven't been to…" Kevin said.

"Where?"

"There—the Abyssal Pit," Kevin pointed to the deep, bottomless pit outside.

"What! That pit's so deep, you couldn't even fly down there. Let's just stay here and wait for the end," Stelle tried to persuade Kevin not to do anything reckless.

"We're not flying. We're taking the elevator." Kevin walked to a control panel nearby, giving Stelle a playful glance.

Stelle: "…"

They rode the elevator down, but the depth of the Abyssal Pit exceeded their expectations. Stelle sat on the floor, feeling like mushrooms were growing on her.

"Brother Kevin, how much longer until we reach the bottom?"

Kevin sat cross-legged, eyes closed, meditating.

"Soon. The presence is getting closer."

Hearing that, Stelle perked up.

"Brother Kevin, you've been talking about this presence the whole time. What is it, exactly? Stop being so mysterious~"

"The presence is… Never mind, we're almost there."

Kevin stood up, brushing the dust off his clothes.

The elevator slowly descended, and the space at the bottom of the Abyssal Pit finally revealed itself.

Circular stairs spiraled inward from the outer rim, leading to a central platform, surrounded by massive ice crystals that blocked any view from outside.

"It's so cold~" Stelle shivered.

"If you're cold, stay here. I'll come get you after I'm done."

"Okay…"

Stelle sat in a corner. After all, she couldn't be of much help right now, and heading down would only burden Kevin. How did the once fun Simulated Universe turn into this mess?

Kevin glanced at Stelle sitting in the corner. For a moment, he felt a bit sorry for the girl.

Don't worry. I'll make sure you get out of here safely.

Kevin spoke these words silently to himself.

He picked up Destruction and leaped onto the central platform.

There, a man sat casually on an ice throne.

One hand propped against his cheek, waiting for someone to arrive…

"Tap… tap… tap…"

The sound of shoes echoed across the icy floor.

The man on the throne opened his eyes and looked at the one approaching.

"You've finally come…" the man spoke.

"I figured it was you," Kevin said, looking at the man on the throne. "You purposely leaked your presence to lure me here. How should I address you?"

"Another version of me? Or… 'Diabolic Demon'?"

"We must have a duel…" The man on the throne stood up.

His body was covered in black, foreign matter, resembling a demon from the abyss.

He raised his sword and pointed it at Kevin.

"Was it the Memory Aeon that created you? Forced you to fight me?" Kevin asked calmly.

"This is a matter of survival…" Diabolic Demon nodded. "I must defeat you."

Kevin shook his head after hearing this, chuckling softly, "So, you're just… a fake…"

"Boom!"

The battle began in an instant…

Kevin charged toward Diabolic Demon, wielding Destruction. Their swords clashed in a dazzling explosion of sparks.

The speed of the two people was almost imperceptible to the naked eye, and only the fierce collision of red light and black light could be seen.

During the battle, Kevin's Destruction pierced Diabolic Demon abdomen. For a moment, Kevin felt as if he had lost something.

In an instant, Diabolic Demon seized the opportunity, and Kevin suddenly broke in.

Kevin reacted quickly, dodged sideways, and struck a blow across Diabolic Demon back.

Someone's figure flashed across his mind and disappeared instantly.

memory! It's memory!

Every time a Diabolic Demon is injured, part of the memory will disappear.

Is it Fu Li who is causing trouble?

Seeing Kevin's expression when he noticed something, Diabolic Demon smiled: "Want to know where the memory went?"

As he spoke, he raised the tribulation and swept it across.

Kevin jumped back to avoid it and had no intention of continuing the attack.

The situation of the battle between the two changed from Kevin being slightly better to Diabolic attacking and Kevin defending.

The tug-of-war continues, and Kevin's blind defense will only cause the Diabolic demon to attack even more fiercely.

Kevin was forced to raise his sword to fight back, but Diabolic Demon had no intention of hiding and took the blow exactly.

"Kevin." A male voice came from his mind.

Kevin subconsciously raised his eyes and saw that it was a man with gray hair, but he couldn't see his face clearly and couldn't tell his name. He watched the man disappear before his eyes.

"Ahem...hehe, you can't kill me. If you kill me, you will forget everything..."

Kevin woke up instantly and slashed down with his sword.

The Diabolic demon didn't intend to take his sword, but quickly backed away.

The moment Kevin stood up, Diabolic Demon counterattacked with his sword. Cold air erupted all over his body, and ice fog blocked Kevin's sight.

Kevin stepped back in time, and the ice wall rose from the ground, blocking his movement. He looked up and saw a figure in the air getting ready.
