章節 119: Chapter 119: Guerrilla Warfare

Night had fallen over the slums, and the air was thick with tension. Cole and his crew moved through the shadows, their steps light, barely making a sound. The city's forces had fortified the streets, their presence heavy, but that didn't deter Cole. If anything, it fueled him. They had taken his home, and now it was time to take it back—one piece at a time.

"Zack, you're up first," Cole whispered, his eyes scanning the area. The buildings were worn and dilapidated, the remains of the slums' collapse visible everywhere. But Cole knew these streets like the back of his hand, and tonight, they'd use that knowledge to their advantage.

Zack grinned, the kind of grin that promised trouble. "I've been waiting for this."

He slipped ahead, disappearing into the dark alleyways with ease. Zack was the best at this—sneaking in, planting traps, and getting out before anyone even knew he'd been there. Tonight was no different. The plan was simple: disrupt the city's patrols, hit them hard, and disappear before they could retaliate.

Cole and the rest of the crew stayed hidden, their eyes trained on the city's soldiers who had set up a checkpoint a few blocks ahead. The soldiers stood casually, as if they weren't expecting any trouble. But that was about to change.

A few minutes later, Zack's voice crackled through Cole's earpiece. "All set."

Cole glanced at Ty, who was crouched beside him. "Ready?"

Ty nodded, his jaw tight. "Let's do it."

"Hit it," Cole ordered.

There was a low rumble, and then an explosion rocked the street. One of the patrol vehicles was blown off its wheels, the fireball lighting up the night. The soldiers scrambled, shouting orders, their weapons drawn, but it was already too late.

Ty and Zack's teams struck from the shadows, taking out the disoriented soldiers with swift precision. They moved like ghosts, hitting hard and fast, then vanishing into the dark before the city's forces could even get their bearings.

"Move to the next point," Cole said, his voice steady as he led the charge through the streets. They had to keep the pressure on. Hit them fast, hit them hard, and keep moving.

Lina was at his side, her eyes sharp as they advanced. "They'll send reinforcements soon."

"I know," Cole replied. "But we're not giving them a chance to regroup."

They hit another checkpoint two blocks down, taking out more soldiers, dismantling their equipment, and setting more traps. The city's forces were powerful, but they weren't used to this kind of warfare. They were used to controlling the streets, not fighting against an invisible enemy that knew the terrain better than they did.

"We're making progress," Ty said as they regrouped in an alleyway. "But we can't keep this up forever. They'll adapt."

"We don't need forever," Cole replied, his eyes scanning the area for the next target. "Just long enough to make them realize they can't hold the slums."

The night wore on, and the crew kept moving, taking out small groups of soldiers, planting traps, and disrupting the city's operations at every turn. By the time dawn approached, the slums were once again filled with the sounds of battle—explosions, gunfire, and the shouts of soldiers as they tried to regain control.

But it was clear that the city's forces were struggling. Their usual tactics weren't working, and the slum fighters were relentless, hitting them from every angle.

"They're spread thin," Zack said, wiping sweat from his brow as they took a moment to rest in a makeshift hideout. "They didn't expect this kind of resistance."

Cole nodded, his mind already racing with the next steps. They had gained ground, but they couldn't get complacent. The city would regroup, and when they did, they'd come back with more firepower.

"We keep pushing," Cole said, his voice firm. "But we need to be smarter. We've shown them we're not backing down, but now we need to weaken their supply lines."

Ty frowned. "You're thinking bigger hits?"

"Exactly," Cole replied. "We hit their supply routes, their ammunition stores, anything that keeps them going. If we cut off their resources, they'll have no choice but to pull back."

Lina nodded in agreement. "We'll need to be careful. They're going to be looking for us now."

"I know," Cole said, his gaze hard. "But this is our home. We're not letting them take it."
