章節 62: Chapter 62: The Offer They Couldn't Refuse

Inside the diner, Ty and Zack were sitting at their usual booth, deep in conversation. The place was almost empty, the low hum of the jukebox playing a slow, soothing tune in the background. When Cole and Lina joined them, Ty immediately launched into an excited retelling of a fight he had watched earlier in the week.

But as Cole sat down, his thoughts were still heavy with the conversation he'd had with Jayden. He could feel Lina's eyes on him, but he didn't say anything. Not yet. He needed to process everything before he brought Ty and Zack into the loop.

Just as Ty was wrapping up his story, the bell above the diner's door rang, and a man walked in. Cole glanced up, and his heart sank.

It was one of the men in suits.

The diner fell silent as the man approached their booth, his sharp eyes locked on Cole. He was tall, with slicked-back hair and an air of authority that sent a chill down Cole's spine.

"Mr. Matthews," the man said, his voice smooth and calculated. "I'd like to have a word with you."

Ty and Zack exchanged a glance, immediately tensing up. Lina's hand slipped under the table, where Cole knew she was gripping her fork like a weapon. They didn't know who this man was, but they could sense the danger he brought with him.

Cole leaned back in his seat, his jaw clenched. "What do you want?"

The man smiled, though it didn't reach his eyes. "I'm here to offer you an opportunity. You've been making quite a name for yourself in the regional tournament. My employers have taken notice, and they believe you could be… valuable."

Cole narrowed his eyes, his fists tightening under the table. "I'm not interested in working for your employers."

The man's smile didn't falter, but there was a flicker of something darker in his eyes. "You haven't even heard what the offer is."

"I don't need to," Cole said, his voice cold. "I'm not getting involved in the underground again."

The man's smile faded, and he leaned forward slightly, his voice lowering. "You may not have a choice, Mr. Matthews. My employers don't take no for an answer. If you continue to ignore them, things could get… complicated."

Ty's fists clenched, and Zack shifted in his seat, ready for a fight. But Cole kept his composure, his eyes locked on the man in front of him.

"I'm not scared of you," Cole said, his voice steady. "And I'm not scared of your employers. Tell them if they want to come after me, they can. But I won't be part of their world."

The man studied him for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Finally, he stood up, straightening his suit jacket.

"Very well," the man said, his voice cold. "But don't say I didn't warn you."

With that, he turned and walked out of the diner, leaving a heavy silence in his wake.

Ty let out a low whistle. "Man, that guy gives me the creeps."

Zack nodded, his brow furrowed. "What was that all about?"

Cole leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "They want to pull me back into the underground. I told them no, but they're not going to let it go."

Lina placed a hand on his arm, her eyes filled with concern. "We'll figure this out, Cole. We'll get through this."

Cole nodded, though the weight of the situation pressed down on him. He knew Lina was right—they would face this together. But he also knew that things were about to get a lot more dangerous.
