章節 12: Chapter 12: The Death of Crenshaw

The silence that followed Crenshaw's fall was deafening. For a moment, time seemed to stand still, the air thick with shock and disbelief. Cole stood at the edge of the broken balcony, his chest heaving, staring down at the motionless body below.

Crenshaw was dead.

It didn't feel real. After all the fear, the anger, the hatred that had consumed their lives for so long, the man who had controlled the slums with an iron fist was lying broken and lifeless on the cold concrete.

"Is it... over?" Lina's voice broke the silence, shaky and uncertain.

Cole blinked, the fog in his mind lifting as he turned to look at her. She stood at the foot of the stairs, her face pale and bruised from the fight. Ty and Zack were beside her, battered but alive.

Cole didn't answer right away. He didn't know how to. Was it over? Could it really be that simple? One man, one fight, and now they were free?

No. It wasn't that simple. It never was.

Zack approached slowly, his eyes flicking from Cole to Crenshaw's body. "We did it," he said, his voice quiet, almost disbelieving. "We actually did it."

Ty let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, leaning against the wall and wiping sweat from his brow. "Holy hell, man. I didn't think we'd make it."

Lina stepped closer, her eyes searching Cole's face. "Are you okay?"

Cole nodded, though he didn't feel okay. He felt... numb. Crenshaw's death should have brought him some kind of satisfaction, some sense of victory. But all he felt was the weight of everything they had done, everything that had led to this moment.

He killed Crenshaw. The man who had tormented them, who had ruled the slums with fear, was dead because of him. And yet, the streets were no safer. The system that had allowed Crenshaw to thrive was still in place. There would always be someone ready to step into his place, to take control of the broken system.

"We need to get out of here," Zack said, breaking through Cole's thoughts. "Before anyone else shows up."

Cole tore his gaze away from Crenshaw's body and nodded. "Yeah. Let's go."

They moved quickly, slipping through the warehouse and back into the shadows of the slums. The streets were eerily quiet, as if the city itself was holding its breath, waiting for what came next.
