[Continued...]
After closing the wooden door, I turned on the camera in the night vision mode. I walked toward the air pump and pulled the gear down.
Accompanied by the sound of a machine engine turning. I silently move toward the corner of the wall.
After waiting for about six or seven breaths, nothing seemed to happen.
"Why are you still squatting here?" Huang Donglai, next to me, interjected.
"Listen to me, hurry up now. The fat roll isn't here yet, don't just wait here. Move. Move on" Donglai continued.
Hearing him bark next to my ear...
"Ah, I'm a little panicked, let's do it," I started to move. I checked the room, finding nothing to collect, and was about to open the door.
At this moment, Huang Donglai was still chatting with me as he mocked, "Oh, No need to panic, that monster won't just come out of the door now."
As if on cue, the door handle slowly turned, and the wooden door creaked open.
Creak... Creak... Creak...
Just as it opened, a pale face came into my view. It filled up the screen.
"Ah!" this time we both screamed together, the fat on brother Huang was jiggling, although I will call it trembling, though I slumped back in my chair, with my heart pounding. The mental patient had appeared right in front of me, face to face.
I was caught off guard, and the shock made me jerk back so hard I knocked the camera next to me. It looked a little crooked.
In the game, the mentally ill figure raised a barbed wooden board in his hand and came at me.
"I'm not dead yet, I'm not dead yet!"
Even though my heart had already jumped out of my chest, I realized my character was still alive in the game. I quickly adjusted my chair and took control, trying to make my escape.
The background music in my headphones shifted to a shrill orchestral tune, but the melody was disturbingly strange. Paired with the chase scene in night vision mode, my heart raced, and cold sweat trickled down my back.
"Holy crap! Where am I going!"
"Come on! You jerk, if I had a weapon, I'd obliterate you!"
Panicking, I controlled the character, running blindly like a headless chicken through the dark basement.
Every time I saw a passage, I darted into it, and whenever I spotted a box, I jumped over it.
The sweat on my forehead had already started dripping, and my usually small eyes were now wide open in terror. Even my hand, gripping the mouse, trembled slightly.
This game is terrifying. The atmosphere, the background, the pacing—who even makes horror games this intense? Brother Huang should go through this, right? That was my only thought as I ran for my life in-game, sweating bullets.
I mean, we brothers share everything: good vibes, bad vibes, food, even heartache. So why not share this nightmare too? I'll make him suffer the same way I did, except I'll watch from the sidelines like a supportive fan... a fan that's secretly cackling while he's screaming. And then, when he's fully immersed, thinking I've got his back, I'll strike! Tear him apart! Not in the game, though—just emotionally, like a good friend should!

Hearing the dull footsteps of the man behind me, I didn't dare look back this time.
Right now, all I could think of was running. As for everyone else? I completely ignored them.
In the game, I was following my intuition, not even knowing where I was headed. After passing through a corner and just over a step-like obstacle, a burst of electric noise startled me.
The red battery bar in the upper right corner of the camera flashed twice, and then the night vision screen flickered before plunging into darkness. I had been in night vision mode and hadn't noticed the camera's power draining. Now, it had just run out.
"What the hell, why is there no light?" I exclaimed in frustration.
"Where's the button to change the battery?"
Panic surged through me as I momentarily forgot how to change the battery. It was pitch black in the passage, and I had completely lost my sense of direction. What made it worse was the roar and footsteps of the person, which seemed to be getting closer.
Step... Step... Step...
Finally, with a click, I managed to reload the battery. But the moment I turned on the night vision mode, I let out the scream of a prey who has met his predator in bed where his hot wife should be.
What the hell is this metaphor?
In front of me, the mentally ill patient had rushed in. In night vision, his face looked like a ghost, scaring me to my core.
"You jerk, get away from me!" I yelled, not even knowing where those words came from. All I knew was that I had to run in the opposite direction. I rounded a corner and spotted a wooden door, rushing through it without a second thought.
Inside the wooden door was the last switch, but my attention wasn't on it at all. I noticed two cabinets in the room. Like a traveler in the desert seeing an oasis or a hungry jackal spotting its prey, I felt ecstasy at the sight of the cabinets.
I ran two steps forward, triggered the interaction with the cabinet, and hid inside.
Then,
Boom! Boom!
There was a knock on the door.
The man entered the room, walking around as before. After opening the cabinet next to mine and muttering to himself, he left.
I let out a long sigh, then went back on the chair and covered my heart with both hands. I silently chose to save the game and exit.

"Okay, okay, that's it for today. That's it for today." I texted on the stream and left the stream. Today I am not greeting them, today I am in a hurry to leave. It was embarrassing, haunting, and scary...
Getting up from the chair again, I covered my face.
"My heart can't take it anymore... I'm ugly, I'm ugly."
These aren't excuses, but I feel like I can't bear it.
After all, I'm not that courageous. To be honest, if this game is supposed to be scary, well, if I think about it, it's nothing more than opening doors, monsters chasing me, and the usual killing.
This content isn't absent in other games either.
But the thing is, in most other games, after the initial shock, there's nothing to it.
However, in Escape, it's a completely different beast. The sound effects and atmosphere are spot-on, making everything much more intense, and immersive.
Especially the camera's night vision setting—it's what gets me. Binding the most uncomfortable darkness to night vision means I always feel on edge, and to find more batteries, I'm forced to explore the unknown.
What's also interesting is that the game isn't just dark all the time. There are quite a few bright places.
This change in dynamic scenes constantly keeps me on edge, filling me with self-doubt.
All these elements, combined with the terrifying atmosphere and sudden scares, make Escape a truly frightening experience.
And now, thinking that I might have to finish the game later, I only have one thought~ Despair!
But I'm not alone in that feeling of despair. Brother Huang, you shall play this game too. Brother Huang, You sit next to me. I will also sit next to you. Brother Huang, you should also play it. Brother Huang...
