As the group began to pile back into the car, ready to leave the scene of the bank robbery, the police captain, a tall, stout man with a square jaw and a brash attitude, approached Baymax with a scowl on his face. His eyes flicked over the mechanical being, then locked onto Aiden, irritation evident in every movement.
"You!" the captain snapped, his finger jabbing in Baymax's direction, causing a few nearby officers to glance over. "What the hell do you think you're doing here, playing hero?"
Aiden's gaze immediately darkened, but he stayed silent, sensing the tension building. The captain continued, clearly feeling bold as he stood in front of the much larger robot. "You're nothing but a toy! An unregistered, unlicensed support unit, probably built for who knows what purpose. You've got no business stepping in on an official operation like this!"
Baymax stood still, his glowing blue eyes reflecting the captain's harsh words. "I am Baymax, a personal healthcare companion and—"
"I don't care what you are!" the captain interrupted, his voice escalating with every word. "You're not authorized to engage in combat, and you're damn sure not licensed to be out here doing this kind of work. You've interfered in matters that don't concern you, and I'm going to make sure this doesn't happen again. I'll have to confiscate this... thing."
A few officers exchanged uncertain glances as the captain's loud voice rang through the growing crowd of onlookers, who had begun filming the interaction on their phones.
Aiden's grip on the car door tightened, his jaw clenching. This was too much. He could feel his annoyance bubbling up, but he managed to hold it in for a moment longer.
"Now listen here," the captain continued, crossing his arms and puffing out his chest, clearly enjoying the attention. "There are protocols in place for heroes and their gadgets, and you—you—are outside those laws. You're probably a vigilante, and I'm tired of dealing with people like you and your 'friends.'"
Baymax's hand twitched slightly, a sign that he was preparing to speak again, but Aiden finally cut in, his voice sharp, every word laced with disdain.
"That's enough!" Aiden's tone boomed, commanding the attention of everyone in the immediate vicinity. The crowd silenced, sensing the gravity in his voice. He stepped forward, his eyes locked onto the captain's with an intensity that made the officer falter for a moment.
"You've got a hell of a nerve, don't you?" Aiden's voice was calm, but there was a raw anger beneath it, a fury that seethed just beneath the surface. "You come up here, acting like you know everything, like you've got the right to tell me what I can and can't do. Let me tell you something—Baymax is mine, and I will use him however I see fit, got it? Not you, not anyone, me."
The captain opened his mouth to respond, but Aiden didn't let him speak. He stepped closer, his eyes narrowing as he towered over the older man.
"Do you understand what it means to actually protect people? Because you sure as hell don't seem like you do. You stand there barking orders at me, talking about laws and protocols, like they matter when people are in danger. You should be thanking me that you didn't have to clean up a bigger mess because Baymax was there to stop it. But no, you're too busy trying to make yourself feel important in front of a crowd." Aiden's tone was dripping with disdain now. "You think you can just walk up and confiscate my property? You think you can just walk in and control the situation? Let me remind you of something: I am the one who made sure the people here were safe, I am the one who dealt with the villains while you and your 'heroes' were too busy putting on a show."
He stepped even closer, now inches from the captain's face, his voice low and dangerous.
"And you want to threaten to take Baymax from me? You want to come into my life and tell me what I can do with my own creations? You're nothing but an ignorant, power-hungry idiot who wouldn't know a real hero if one bit him on the ass. So take your threats, your pompous attitude, and get the hell out of my face."
The crowd stood in stunned silence, some of them wide-eyed at Aiden's outburst. He stood there, staring down the captain with an expression of utter contempt.
The captain, visibly flustered and red in the face, stepped back. He opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out. The sudden realization that he had overstepped his bounds hit him, and for a moment, he faltered. He looked around at the onlookers, now all focused on him, before finally turning away, muttering under his breath. "You haven't heard the last of this, kid."
Aiden didn't even flinch as the captain stormed off, his hands balled into fists at his sides. The situation had been defused, for now, but it wasn't over.
He turned back toward Baymax, who stood calmly, watching the exchange without so much as a ripple of emotion on his face.
"Are you okay, Baymax?" Aiden asked, his voice softer now, but still tinged with irritation.
Baymax's sensors flickered. "I am functioning within optimal parameters, Aiden. My primary directive is to ensure your safety. I did not experience distress."
Aiden gave a small, approving nod. "Good. You did what you were supposed to. Don't worry about that idiot."
Toru, who had been watching the entire scene unfold with an almost amused expression, leaned in from the passenger seat. "Well, that was intense. You sure know how to deal with people."
Aiden sighed, rubbing his temples. "I don't have time for morons like him. The guy's a walking ego trip with a badge. But it doesn't matter. He'll get the message sooner or later."
Just as Aiden finished speaking, a familiar figure approached through the crowd, his long, dark coat flapping behind him. Kenji Tsuragamae, the head of the Chief of Police and a close ally of Aiden, stepped forward, his usually calm demeanor now tinged with concern.
"Aiden," Kenji said, his voice carrying through the air. He cast a knowing glance at the retreating captain before turning back to Aiden. "I see we're still having 'issues' with certain people in the force."
Aiden let out a tired laugh, his shoulders relaxing slightly as the tension of the moment faded. "Yeah, that guy just doesn't know when to quit."
Kenji smiled faintly, his expression softening. "You handled it well. I've been meaning to have a word with him anyway. I'll take care of the paperwork and smooth things over. You don't need to get involved."
"Thanks," Aiden said, his voice appreciative but still frustrated. "I just... can't stand people like him. You'd think after everything we've been through, they'd get the hint."
Kenji chuckled, shaking his head. "Don't expect that kind of logic from him. He's just another bureaucrat trying to make a name for himself. Let me take care of it, Aiden."
With a nod, Aiden stepped back, letting Kenji handle the situation. The crowd slowly began to disperse, some continuing to film while others murmured amongst themselves about the scene they had just witnessed.
As Kenji spoke to the remaining officers, Aiden and his group climbed back into the car. Baymax, still small and unobtrusive in his toy-sized form, settled into Aiden's lap once again.
"Well," Aiden said with a sigh, "I think it's safe to say that's the last time we try to have a quiet day out. You never know what you'll get in this city."
Toru laughed softly, a teasing glint in her eyes. "Don't worry. You did a good job. But I think next time, we just let Baymax handle all the heavy lifting, yeah?"
Aiden smiled, leaning back in his seat as the car began to pull away. "Yeah... maybe. But next time, I'm making sure to get some peace before it all blows up again."
