Ava felt a chill on her spine. "You are still outside the house," she exclaimed, already jumping out of bed.

"It's cold."

"Stay there. I'm coming."

Ending the call, she tossed the phone aside and rushed down the hallway, her bare feet padding against the cool floor. Her fingers fumbled briefly with the lock before yanking the door open. What she saw stopped her cold.

Dylan stood there, drenched from head to toe, his hair plastered against his forehead. His clothes clung to his body, rivulets of rainwater trailing down his skin and forming a small puddle at his feet. His breath came out in faint puffs in the chilly air, his whole frame trembling.

"You!" Ava gasped, her eyes wide with shock. "How did you—why are you soaked like this?"

Dylan's teeth chattered as he tried to speak. "Can we… skip the interrogation?"
