He might have been more extreme, but at least Magneto had a clear vision of what he wanted, even if it meant opposing the world. The X-Men, on the other hand, always tried to walk the tightrope between humanity and mutantkind, often achieving little progress for either side.
Nonetheless, they waited outside for her to finish, though Emma could still hear them bickering. She didn't make them wait long and quickly finished eating.
At the same time, she was surprised that the government hadn't intervened; she was sure they must know about Mystique and the X-Men's visit. SHIELD + Hydra isn't a joke.
She rejoined them after finishing to satisfy her hunger, and seeing them still bickering, Mystique and Professor X, to be exact, she said, "Hey, why are you making simple things so complicated? It's not as if anyone can convince the other to change their philosophy, right?"
To be honest, even Ororo was a little annoyed by Mystique and Charles's arguing, while Logan could understand them. He felt it was like old friends who hadn't seen each other in a while and didn't really care about arguing.
Jean could simply hear Mystique's thoughts; she knew the latter had no intention of convincing the Professor but had more or less complicated feelings.
Mystique didn't dwell on what Emma said. She knew that with Charles here, any tactics she might use to convince or abduct Emma wouldn't work. She said, "So, have you thought about my proposition?"
Emma shook her head. "Sorry, Ms. Raven, but I'm not really interested in your domination ideas. I'm more of a free person who doesn't like complicated things. World domination doesn't suit my taste."
Well, it was the way the Brotherhood wanted to dominate the world that didn't appeal to her. She preferred a more straightforward approach, where strength alone is enough to crush everything, without the need for scheming or anything.
Mystique nodded and left. In fact, she hadn't expected to convince Emma but had just wanted to make contact with her, judge her further, and perhaps abduct her if an opportunity arose, though that was technically impossible.
After Mystique left, it was just Emma and the X-Men. She said, "And you, I imagine you didn't come here by chance while I was discussing with Ms. Raven, right?"
Charles couldn't tell whether Emma was angry or sarcastic, but he certainly wouldn't bear her anger for the military.
He said, "In fact, it was the military that requested my help. They said the Brotherhood would contact you sooner or later, and as you see, they don't want to enter a conflict yet. I finally located Raven, but by the time I did, she was already near you."
Emma nodded. So now the government wanted to monitor what kind of people she would meet? Hmm, she really needed to show them she wasn't someone to be messed with. She certainly couldn't tolerate such impudence.
The Professor couldn't sense Emma's anger. He said, "I also wanted to invite you to my Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Though it's generally for young mutants, it can also help you control your power."
Emma paused as if she was seriously considering what he said before shaking her head. "I already have a master who can help me learn and control my power, but if you want to invite me as a teacher, I'd be more than happy."
This time, it was Charles's turn to be surprised. He had invited Emma as a formality but didn't have much hope, since she seemed to be in some sort of agreement with the military. He didn't expect her to want to join his school as a teacher.
Seeing his surprised expression, she said, "Don't look at me like that. I've always been interested in teaching, but I ultimately chose to join the military. Now it's time to change my career."
"I'm starting my internship as a doctor next week plus my military experiment, I have many things to teach those young lads."
Charles was, of course, happy with Emma's proposition. Didn't this mean the school would now have two Omega Level mutants as support?
He knew the only reason the government hadn't raided his school was partially due to fear of him, but more so because of Jean.
When the conflict between his X-Men and Magneto's Brotherhood happened, Jean had fought with Wanda, another Omega Level mutant. Their battle completely changed the government's perception of mutants.
Fortunately, it had taken place on an uninhabited island, which no longer existed. The government learned that both Jean and Wanda had been restraining their power because it wasn't a life-and-death battle.
This is why they didn't want to arrest Mystique and provoke a conflict with Magneto, who had an Omega Level mutant under his command.
Poor Professor. He didn't know that Emma's original plan, she only wanted to test her system's abilities but, more importantly, to poach from him.
She knew that Jean had a different philosophy from Professor X and that she would leave sooner or later, especially when the Black Phoenix awakened.
Emma didn't care whether it was Black Phoenix or Jean Grey, all she cared about was recruiting the Phoenix's power to her side.
Charles, unaware of this, was, of course, pleased with her proposition. He didn't worry about her mentioning she had a teacher, thinking it was another mutant working for the government.
He replied, "I would be glad to have you at my school, and it would definitely be a stroke of luck for those children to be taught by someone with your military experience."
They walked toward Emma's apartment, discussing her future at the school. She wanted to teach two subjects: medical knowledge and practical training.
That's right, though she definitely wouldn't teach them the Sun Breathing technique, Emma wanted to share some practical knowledge to see how it would benefit her.
Like her internship at the hospital, she also wanted to see what it was like working at a school for superpowered students so that she wouldn't face any issues when she started her own school later.
