Benjamin wanted to tell Adeline to shut up but at the same time, he wanted to see her get an earful from their father. 'Is she drunk?' He wondered. It wasn't like Adeline to act like this. 

Adeline stood firm on what she spoke. How much longer was she to go on cleaning up the mess while Benjamin did as he wanted? 

The solution was simple so she wasn't asking for much. It was the one thing she asked for in years from her father.

Vance didn't respond immediately and started to make his way to the door where his children stood. "Repeat what you said. I must do what?"

Adeline took a step back. She knew her father didn't like to be told what to do but she had to say something since he wasn't getting Benjamin in check. 

This was unlike her father as it started to appear like he wanted to lose and wasn't letting the two of them in on it. Yet he would put all the blame on them if this all crumbled.
