章節 46: The Mysterious Infantry Warrior

"This is our victory!"

All the remaining warriors of Qin celebrated that Jun had kept his promise to kill the general on this hill before they arrived as reinforcements.

Shin, who had slain important warriors, captains, and commanders of a hundred men, also celebrated, changing his perspective on Jun, who had fully involved himself in the battle.

But unlike everyone who felt the victory as their own, Jun, perhaps the one most involved in this battlefield, simply walked back to his tent accompanied by Kyou Kai, with whom he wanted to have a good conversation.

Too many people had died today; there was nothing to celebrate—this had been a massacre.

"Are you guys okay?" Shin approached to check if he and Kyou Kai were alright.

'Oh, he still doesn't know that Kyou Kai is a woman...' Jun nodded slightly as he withdrew from the battlefield, which was being abandoned by the soldiers of Wei.

Curiously, when a general dies, all the soldiers surrender, and they end up in the hands of the victorious army. But there is an unwritten rule that if this happens while the main general of the army is still alive, everyone must let the soldiers who could not be killed go.

That is why, in this situation, even though they were at a disadvantage, they managed to take this hill.

The battle was not lost yet; Qin had the opportunity to keep advancing, although with the casualties, that would be impossible in Jun's eyes, who knew when a battle could not go on.

"My lord, what the hell happened to you?" Trevor approached, holding Starfish, Jun's donkey, who was too stubborn in his hands.

Jun's gaze fixed on his donkey, and then he asked, "Do we have a tent?"

"Yes, they have assigned us one next to the general's."

"Are our things there?" Jun walked while supporting a weary Kyou Kai, exhausted from the extreme combat they had just endured.

"Everything is there..." Trevor glanced at the girl Jun was supporting with his left arm and fell silent.

"Did you kill the general?"

"It was more complicated than I had expected..." Jun did not feel proud of this battle.

It was normal; from his perspective, this war, aside from maintaining the new king's pride and dignity, made no sense. Why try to take some hills that would lead to heavy losses?

They were in Wei territory, and the battle was very unfavorable for everyone because other nations would benefit if both sides bled heavily in battle.

But Jun was too harsh on battles where the armies did not act as one. At least his personal army was being trained with advanced combat tactics he had remembered from many scenes he had seen before.

...

Hours had passed since the battle on the plain where Jun had killed the main general of this part of Wei's army.

Everyone was wondering who this mysterious warrior with the infantry was.

The achievement of killing a commander of a thousand men is not something to be earned in the first battle, but Jun had done it, surprising everyone.

But while many talked, Jun entered a rather large circular tent carrying a tray of food that ranged from soup to a large steak with fresh vegetables.

Besides being a warrior, he had created his own recipes from his memories, and for many, they were a true delicacy they had never tasted before.

"I cooked it myself; I hope you like it," Jun said as he placed the tray of food in front of Kyou Kai, who had removed her scarf and forehead band, revealing her feminine face.

They had not spoken since the battle ended, but both recognized the clans they belonged to.

Kyou Kai had observed the Black Moon Dance that Jun demonstrated when he killed the general; on the other hand, Jun had observed Kyou Kai display skills that only the women of the Shiyuu clan possessed.

After treating their wounds, both waited for the right moment to ask questions.

"What if we exchange three answers to three questions we have for each other?" Jun was the first to bring up the topic and cleverly made a very smart suggestion.

Jun's gaze focused on Kyou Kai's expressions, but she showed nothing.

"Thank you for bringing me back..."

"It's what a battle companion would do; you don't need to thank me. On the contrary, it should be me thanking you for helping me kill that general." Jun took the opportunity to praise her bravery.

Kyou Kai, of course, did not let herself be deceived, and while eating, she asked, "Are you thinking of killing me?"

"No, I wondered what you're looking for on this battlefield." Jun responded briefly and, in turn, asked a question.

Kyou Kai thought for a moment and said, "I'm looking for someone."

"For what?" Jun's eyes showed even more interest.

"To kill her..." Kyou Kai said, then asked in her usual calm voice, "If you're not here to kill me, why are you showing interest?"

"I just want to know more..."

"Know what?"

"Know more about what you're looking for."
