After getting a pretty severe sermon from our teacher consisting of both 'Do you two think that the academy is some sort of playground?!' as well as 'If this happens again then I'll make sure that both of you will severely regret it!', Cerus and Celine were also given the same documents as the rest of us.
Honestly, I did feel a bit better as I saw the girl full of energy again, proving that Cerus had at least to some degree managed to comfort her even if they did have to pay the price by getting their heads chewed off by Mr. Folm.
'Now then! Time to see what this academy has to offer!'
Opting to look at the schedule and curriculum at a later time, I flipped through the pages until I got to the overview of selectable courses, of which there were a lot more than I expected. With everything from swordsmanship to monster taming, and witchcraft to blacksmithing, I was pretty overwhelmed from thinking about all the options I had in front of me.
Thankfully, the courses were already divided into major and secondary courses, which made things a bit easier for me. Because I already had a pretty good idea of what major I wanted to attend.
So with that in mind, I began by picking a major, of which there were a lot fewer compared to secondary courses, likely due to them being more general and overarching in contrast to the more specialized secondary courses. Examples being things like 'ranged-combat' and 'spellcasting'.
It didn't take more than a couple of minutes before I made my choice.
'Close-quarters combat it is!'
Honestly, it had never been much of a choice. Because if I chose anything else, I would be giving up most of everything that I believed in as well as what I dreamt of.
Now, however, I was quickly thrown back into the chaos of the myriad of secondary courses, of which I had absolutely no idea what would be good for me to pick.
'Tracking? Or wilderness survival? No, maybe mana manipulation?'
If only I had known more about this world and how things functioned, then maybe I would have had an easier time choosing suitable courses, but with the limited knowledge that I had right now, it felt more like spinning a lottery wheel and hoping for the best.
'No... I can still somewhat distinguish what would be beneficial to me and what would be unsuitable...'
Ultimately I had to believe in the path that I was currently walking, a road traveled for the sole reason of becoming stronger. Therefore I simply had to start by identifying what factors would enable me to become more powerful.
One of the biggest contributors to my strength would undoubtedly be physical prowess, not only in the form of raw physical strength, but also in developing a flexible, fast, and persistent body that could endure all kinds of different movements. Unfortunately, there weren't any courses for strength training, which made me think that the academy assumed that the students would train their bodies in their free time.
'But there are still more ways to become strong in this world...'
Thinking back to my status, I knew that stats were only one part of an individual's strength here and there was another part that I thought of as just as important, if not more important, than stats.
'Here... the physical skills development course.'
I was still unsure exactly how skills worked, but I had a feeling that even though some skills were born out of a class, there was likely a chance that one could learn more through practice. So, in my head at least, it made sense that I might get a chance to learn more skills if I had a teacher to guide me.
What was interesting, however, was the fact that there was also another course named the 'magical skills development course'. I did realize that some skills were connected to one's physical self, like how Jacob had almost floated around the training field with his skill, while others were completely disconnected, like Samuel's manipulation of stones and rocks.
However...
'Doesn't every skill consume mana? And if they do, aren't they all magical skills? Or do some skills not consume any mana, or is it just a way to divide skills to make it easier for students to learn what is relevant to them?'
I already knew for a fact that my Flicker Step consumed mana, and quite a bit at that, as I had done some experiments yesterday by utilizing the status ball. As it turns out, I couldn't use my skill more than a few times before my mana would run out, and to me, that very much gave off signals that the skill was 'magical'. However, it functioned in relation to my movement and actions, so that would make it physical as well..?
'... I'll just attend both.'
It felt like a safe bet to cover both bases of physical skills and magical skills, which meant that I only had one more secondary course to select. And for that last course, I already knew what I wanted. There was one secondary course in particular that I had already eyed out, one that I could be very certain would be a good fit for me.
'It has to be hand-to-hand combat, right?'
Hand-to-hand combat was probably similar to what it was on Earth. Simply put, using your body as a weapon to either defend yourself or to attack someone. Unfortunately, those attacks included the use of your whole body, something that I wasn't all too inclined to find worthwhile. Kicking and grappling were undoubtedly efficient tools in a fight, but... I was a boxer. And boxers don't do that.
'But it's still the best option. It can't be helped.'
Standing up from my seat, having picked all of my courses, I took a quick peek at the analog clock sitting high above the whiteboard.
'14:05? I was pretty fast after all... but I guess that's to be expected with how my brain functions nowadays.'
None of my classmates had made their choices yet, which meant that I was the first student to walk up to our teacher and hand him the papers where I had made my choices. Mr. Folm, in turn, didn't seem very surprised by the fact that I was first either, simply giving me a slight nod before checking the documents in his hands.
"... you may leave. Don't forget that we will begin every day in this classroom at eight."
"Got it. Then, see you later, teacher."

"Haaa..."
Walking out into the long corridor once more and closing the door behind me, I took a breath while trying to shake off the painful sensations in my back that I had acquired from my classmate's sharp stares.
Stretching my hands into the air, I felt my back become lighter as the pressure on my vertebrae eased up a bit.
"Guh! Let's go train for a bit then!'
A moment and a light stretch was all I needed to get on with my day. After having spent what felt like several lifetimes waiting for a chance, I wasn't about to get depressed just because my classmates didn't like me. And if it became a problem, then I would just try and talk to them and explain why I was...
'Wait... I am not allowed to do that, am I?'
Just as I was thinking about it, I remembered something quite important. I was not allowed to tell anyone that I came from another world, which did make things a bit more convoluted. Because how was I supposed to explain to someone that I didn't know anything about anything in a way that made sense without telling them that I wasn't born in this world?
I had stumbled upon a very clear weakness that could spell a lot of trouble in the future if I didn't deal with it. I had a very large absence of common sense and general knowledge about this world.
"I have a lot of work to do, don't I?"
*Tap, tap, tap*
The sound of footsteps suddenly echoed throughout the elongated space and as I turned my head to see who it was, I felt my headache grow even stronger.
With his spiky, dirty blonde hair and sharp face, it was impossible for me not to remember that man. Unfortunately, he also remembered me as his eyes burned with anger as they saw me.
With some of his classmates at his side, it appeared that Wyll had already cemented his position as someone who leads in only two days at the academy.
Then, before I knew it, Wyll was standing in front of me, baring his teeth while speaking with a cool fury.
"Let's go and talk for a bit."
'I'm pretty sure we won't be talking if I follow him...'
I had no intention of following the bully anywhere, but as he and his entourage were all surrounding me, I wasn't quite sure how I could avoid it. And Wyll wasn't about to give me time to think about it as he turned his body in the direction of where the exit to the building was, signaling me to follow him.
But I already knew of a way that I could escape their encirclement.
'Flicker...'

"...what are you doing, Ray?"
With his flaming red hair and outstandingly handsome face appearing from behind the door to our homeroom, I felt a very strange sense of déjà vu as my classmate showed up.
Cerus had once again managed to show up and interrupt Wyll's attempt to bully me.
