Wednesday was the day for Albert's first class of Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Albert arrived at the classroom eager to see up close the character who was behind the scenes in the first part of the Harry Potter series. Oh no, it's Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
To be honest, sitting in a classroom with Voldemort lurking at the back of Quirrell's head, the same Voldemort who killed my mother, makes me want to lash out for revenge. Even though I only spent one day with my mother, her sacrifice for her son makes my conscience ache if I don't seek justice.
However, despite Voldemort being weakened and residing at the back of Quirrell's head, we shouldn't underestimate him. In the original story, Voldemort almost killed Harry in the first part, had it not been for Quirrell's fragile body, which triggered Harry's forehead wound and caused Quirrell and Voldemort to be destroyed together.
The position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts is notorious for being held by someone who can only teach for one year before an incident occurs—either death or resignation.
But having watched the series, I know the reason for this. Voldemort, when he was a student at the school, had cast a dark curse on the position to ensure that anyone who took it would face imminent danger.
Despite this knowledge, people still apply for the position.
Thus, British wizards are not lacking in courage, and more importantly, the level of these professors is not low. Even Professor Lockhart, known for his foolishness, could acquire information from a group of experienced wizards and cast a perfect Obliviate charm without ever failing.
As for Umbridge, let's not even mention her political skills in forcing Dumbledore to step aside.
Just look at her lineage, and you'll see her proficiency in Dark Magic.
Among the remaining professors, there was Remus Lupin, who had been a werewolf for many years but was never killed by an enemy werewolf. Professor Snape, the greatest double agent. Little Crouch, who managed to hide under Dumbledore's nose for a year.
Even the Death Eater Professor Alecto Carrow, carefully chosen by Voldemort in the seventh year. They can all be considered the elite of the elite.
However, Voldemort's curse was so powerful that, in the end, only the mad Lockhart and Umbridge, who made the prison their home, survived among the professors.
As for this year's professor, Quirrell, he had always been known as an outstanding student. No one suspected that he was hiding Voldemort beneath the turban wrapped around his head. Even Dumbledore, known as the greatest wizard of the age, didn't suspect him, because Quirrell was known to be kind and had not made any enemies during his seven years at the school. That's why Voldemort chose him, knowing that no one would suspect Quirrell.
The classroom was filled with the smell of garlic, and besides teaching, he boasted of some completely unjustifiable adventures.
Albert guessed that Quirrell was trying to hide from Dumbledore.
But to be honest, it's easier to spot discrepancies in situations that have changed significantly compared to ordinary times.
It seems that sometimes, when two incompatible minds come together, the combined intelligence may not be as good as a single mind.
