章節 62: Playing Chess With Sona

Izashi reclined on the soft bed, his arm tucked comfortably under his chin, deep in thought. The room was still, save for the soft breathing of Rias and Akeno, who slept peacefully on either side of him. The blanket barely covered them, their bare skin warm against his own. His hands rested between their breasts, feeling the comforting weight of their soft flesh as they held onto him with unconscious affection. His lips twitched into a small smirk at the intimate scene, but his mind was elsewhere.

'Maybe it's a good idea to take over Sona now,' Izashi mused, his thoughts swirling around the petite, intelligent President of the Student Council. He knew that her older sister, Serafall, would be visiting Kuoh soon, and she had a rather strange obsession with him due to her quirky fantasies. If Sona were already under his wing, perhaps it would make things less complicated. Serafall's inevitable reaction to Sona's decision to marry him was already written in the stars, but he didn't want to deal with her theatrics unprepared.

Rias stirred beside him, sighing softly as she snuggled closer, her red hair spilling over his chest. Akeno shifted slightly, a serene smile on her lips, still fast asleep. The warmth of their bodies was enough to make him want to stay in bed, to continue enjoying the peaceful morning, but his mind was already racing ahead.

'I'll just take Sona into my peerage without telling them,' he decided. Announcing it beforehand would only complicate things, and explaining why he wanted to recruit Sona now of all times might cause unnecessary drama. Better to just get it done.

With that thought, he reluctantly pulled himself out of bed, trying not to disturb the sleeping girls. He rubbed his eyes, feeling the lethargy tugging at him, but he knew he had to act quickly. After freshening up and taking a brisk shower, he began dressing in the familiar Kuoh Academy uniform, the simple black and white ensemble contrasting sharply with the power he wielded behind the scenes.

After buttoning up the jacket, Izashi glanced back at Rias and Akeno, still peacefully asleep. A small smile played at his lips. "You two are going to be so surprised," he muttered under his breath before quietly slipping out of the room.

The morning air was crisp as Izashi made his way to the Student Council room. He knew Sona would be there; it was early, with half an hour before classes started, and she was nothing if not diligent. The routine nature of her duties and her disciplined nature meant she was always the first to arrive, ensuring everything was running smoothly. She was as predictable as she was brilliant.

The school halls were mostly empty, only a few students milling about, preparing for the day. Izashi's mind, however, was entirely focused on the task at hand. A chess match with Sona. He'd heard whispers about her reputation—how she would only marry someone who could defeat her in chess. That was intriguing to Izashi, not because of the challenge, but because of the potential implications. If he won, not only would he gain a powerful ally in Sona, but he'd solidify his control over yet another pillar of power within Kuoh Academy. And, truthfully, the idea of adding Sona to his peerage was appealing for more reasons than just her strategic mind.

Reaching the Student Council room, he paused outside the door for a moment, his hand raised to knock. He could hear muffled voices inside, Sona and her peerage, no doubt discussing the day's tasks. It was her routine, after all. The faint sound of Saji's voice cut through the murmurs, his tone one of eager energy.

'Let's hope he knows when to stay quiet,' Izashi thought, knocking on the door.

"Come in," Sona's familiar voice called out from inside.

Izashi pushed the door open and stepped into the room, his presence immediately commanding attention. The atmosphere shifted as he entered, and all eyes turned toward him. Saji, Sona's newly recruited pawn, furrowed his brows in confusion. He clearly wasn't accustomed to seeing Izashi here, nor did he seem to grasp the significance of the moment. The rest of Sona's peerage, however, understood all too well. They exchanged knowing glances, but no one dared to speak.

Izashi's gaze flicked to Sona, sitting at her desk with her characteristic poise. She raised an eyebrow as their eyes met, but otherwise showed little reaction. She was as composed as ever. Izashi smiled inwardly—this was going to be fun.

Breaking the silence, he spoke with casual confidence, "Sona, do you have time for a quick game of chess?"

Sona blinked, caught slightly off guard by the directness of his request. She studied his face for a moment, then nodded slowly. "I suppose I do," she said, motioning for Tsubaki, her Queen, to bring out the chessboard. Tsubaki moved swiftly, placing the board between them without a word.

Izashi could feel the weight of the stares from Sona's peerage. No one dared to question why he was here, and Sona had already warned them of Izashi's power and influence. Even though he wasn't overtly flaunting it, the aura he carried spoke volumes. Sona's peerage knew better than to treat him lightly, especially when Sona had made it clear that she respected his strength and intellect.

Before they began, Izashi leaned back in his chair and met Sona's gaze. "Before we start, Sona, I've heard an interesting rumor about you. Is it true that you plan to marry the person who defeats you in chess?"

Sona's eyes narrowed slightly, her fingers tapping lightly on the table. Before she could respond, Saji cut in, his voice brimming with irritation. "Hey, watch your tone! You're talking to the President of the Student Council! Show some respect."

Izashi didn't even spare him a glance. Instead, he turned to Sona with an amused look on his face. "Does this chattering idiot speak for you?"

Sona exhaled softly, clearly displeased with Saji's interruption. "Saji, be quiet. You're new here, and you don't understand the situation." Her voice was calm, but firm, silencing her pawn immediately.

Turning back to Izashi, she offered a slight smile. "Please ignore him. Now, regarding your question…" She paused, considering her words carefully. "Yes, it's true. I will marry the one who defeats me in chess. But don't think that means it's an easy task."

Izashi's lips curled into a mischievous grin. "Good. I wouldn't want it to be easy. And it's even better that your whole peerage can serve as witnesses. No backing out now, Sona."

Sona met his gaze steadily, though a flicker of determination sparked in her eyes. She wasn't someone to be easily rattled, but she understood the stakes of this match had just risen considerably. She glanced at the board, already forming strategies in her mind.

They set up the board, with Sona choosing the white pieces and Izashi taking the black. Just as she was about to make her first move, Izashi raised his hand slightly, his tone turning serious. "Sona, I expect you to be serious from the very start. Don't hold back, or claim you weren't trying your hardest if you lose."

Sona blinked, taken aback by his boldness. But after a moment, she nodded. "Of course. I won't go easy on you."

'What arrogance,' Saji thought, his jaw clenched. 'Does he really think he stands a chance against Kaichou? She's undefeated in chess! Even Tsubaki has never managed to beat her, and she's her right hand. This fool's about to humiliate himself.'

The game began with Sona making the first move, attacking swiftly. Her strategy was aggressive, aiming to corner Izashi early. She clearly wanted to end the match quickly, not underestimating him but hoping to assert her dominance.

Izashi, however, remained calm, his hand moving deftly to counter her attacks with precise defenses. His face betrayed no emotion, his focus unshakable.

Minutes turned into an hour, then two. Sona's confidence, which had been unwavering at the start, began to waver as Izashi's defenses held firm. No matter how she tried to break through, he always seemed to anticipate her moves, countering with an almost effortless precision.

By the third hour, the tension in the room was palpable. Sona's peerage watched in awe as their usually invincible leader struggled to find an opening. Sona's brow furrowed in concentration as she finally managed to capture one of Izashi's rooks, a small victory, but one that gave her renewed hope.

"Check," she announced confidently, a triumphant smile tugging at her lips.

Izashi, however, didn't even flinch. He calmly moved a pawn, intercepting her attack. "You're going to have to try harder than that."

Sona's smirk faded as she realized that Izashi wasn't playing the way she expected. He was defending with such precision that each of her moves was countered seamlessly. And worse, she started to notice that while she was focused on attacking, he had been subtly advancing his own pieces.

The next few moves passed in a blur, and before Sona realized what was happening, Izashi's pieces had formed a deadly trap around her king.

Sona stared at the board, her heart racing. She had been so focused on her own strategy that she hadn't noticed the intricate web Izashi had been weaving right under her nose. Every piece he moved had a purpose, every step was calculated to bring her to this very moment. She could feel the weight of her peerage's eyes on her, the silent anticipation hanging in the air as they waited for her next move.

Sona's eyes darted over the board, searching desperately for a way out. She had been in tight spots before, but this was different. Izashi had maneuvered her into a position where any move she made would only serve to tighten the noose around her king.

Finally, she made her move, sliding her knight across the board. "I can still survive by taking your queen," she stated confidently, her hand pausing over the piece.

But as she lifted her knight, she froze, her eyes widening as she saw the trap she had just sprung on herself. There, standing silently on the board, was Izashi's rook. It was perfectly positioned to deliver the final blow once she moved her knight. If she took his queen, she would leave her king defenseless.

Her heart sank as the realization hit her. She had been so focused on offense that she had overlooked the simplest of strategies. And now, she was paying the price.

Izashi's smile widened as he leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest. "Checkmate," he said softly, the word cutting through the silence like a knife.

Sona's hand hovered over the knight, her mind racing to find some loophole, some way out of this. But it was too late. There was no escape.

Slowly, she set the knight down, conceding defeat. Her shoulders slumped slightly, but she quickly regained her composure, lifting her chin and meeting Izashi's gaze head-on.
