章節 2: Chapter 1: The Rebirth

Selene awoke with a sharp intake of breath, her lungs burning as if she had been drowning. The suffocating darkness that had once enveloped her was replaced by a golden light filtering through the windows, casting a warm glow on her surroundings. Her eyes snapped open, wide with panic, as she tried to make sense of the sensations flooding her body. She felt…different. Lighter, smaller, and yet her mind was heavy, burdened with memories that felt both distant and immediate.

She sat up abruptly, her hands trembling as they clutched the soft blankets beneath her. Her heart raced, pounding in her chest like a drum, as she took in the room around her. The pale pink walls, the delicate lace curtains, the plush stuffed animals neatly arranged on a shelf—everything was so familiar, yet so impossibly out of place.

This was her childhood room. The room she had left behind when she had grown up, when she had become a woman of 28 years, scarred by betrayal and consumed by a thirst for revenge. The room she had not seen in over a decade, since the day she had moved out to start a life of her own—a life that had ended in the most brutal of ways.

Her breathing hitched as the memories surged back, relentless and cruel. She remembered the bitter cold of her final moments, the weight of despair as she realized that everyone she had trusted had turned against her. Cassandra, her beloved older sister, and Cassandra's illegitimate child—the one who had manipulated, deceived, and ultimately destroyed her. Selene had died alone, broken, and filled with a rage that had consumed her last breath.

But this…this couldn't be real. She had felt the life leave her body, the darkness closing in. How could she possibly be here, in this room, in this body that was far too young to be hers?

Selene's chest tightened as she struggled to comprehend the impossibility of it all. The air around her felt thick, oppressive, as if reality itself was holding its breath, waiting for her to accept what had happened. She could feel the pounding of her heart echoing in her ears, each beat a reminder that she was alive—something she had been certain was no longer true.

With a sense of dread, she turned to the mirror across the room, her eyes wide with disbelief. The reflection that stared back at her was not the woman she had become, but the girl she had once been. Her face was smooth, unlined by the worries and sorrows that had plagued her later years. Her hair, long and dark, cascaded down her back in soft waves, untouched by the harshness of life.

Tentatively, she reached out to touch her face, her fingers grazing her cheek as if to confirm what her eyes were seeing. The skin was soft, supple, free of the wear and tear of time. This was her 14-year-old self—the girl who had not yet known the pain of betrayal, the girl who had not yet been hardened by the cruel realities of the world.

A small, choked sob escaped her lips as she staggered back from the mirror, overwhelmed by the flood of emotions that threatened to consume her. Fear, confusion, anger—all warred within her, each demanding to be acknowledged, each fighting for dominance in her mind. But beneath it all, beneath the storm of emotions that raged within her, there was something else. A cold, calculating sense of purpose.

Selene's breath came in short, shallow gasps as the enormity of the situation began to sink in. She had been reborn. There was no other explanation for it. She had died at 28, her life cruelly cut short, and now she was back, inhabiting the body of her younger self. The impossibility of it all made her head spin, and she squeezed her eyes shut, willing herself to wake up from this bizarre dream.

But when she opened her eyes, nothing had changed. The room was still the same, her reflection still that of a teenager. This was no dream—it was reality, as twisted and unbelievable as it seemed.

A mixture of emotions swirled within her—fear, confusion, and, beneath it all, a spark of something else. Determination. This was a second chance, an opportunity to rewrite her fate. She had been given the chance to change everything, to prevent the betrayals that had led to her demise, and to take control of her destiny.

Slowly, Selene rose from the bed, her legs shaky as she took her first steps in this reborn life. Her movements were hesitant at first, as if she expected the ground to shift beneath her feet, to reveal this as some cruel illusion. But the floor was solid, the air warm and real, and with each step, she felt her resolve harden.

She moved toward the window, pushing aside the lace curtain to let in the morning light. The world outside was bathed in a golden glow, vibrant and alive. The garden below was a riot of colors—roses, tulips, and lilacs in full bloom, their fragrance wafting up to her like a memory from another life. It was a world that she had thought she would never see again, a world she had left behind when her life had been snuffed out like a candle in the wind.

She was 14 years old, with the knowledge and experience of a woman who had lived through the darkest of times. And now, she had a chance to set things right, to take revenge on those who had wronged her, and to carve out a future where she held all the power.

But first, she had to come to terms with what had happened, with the reality of her rebirth. She needed time to think, to plan, to prepare for the long road ahead. Because this time, she would not be the victim. This time, she would be the one in control.

Selene's mind began to race with possibilities, each one more intoxicating than the last. She knew the future, knew the choices and decisions that would shape the lives of those around her. She could manipulate events to her advantage, bend fate to her will. The thought sent a thrill of anticipation through her, a sense of power that she had never felt before.

But with that power came a heavy burden. She could not afford to make the same mistakes as before. She could not allow herself to be blinded by love, trust, or loyalty. Those were luxuries she could no longer afford. She would have to be cold, calculating, and ruthless if she was to survive and succeed in this new life.

A knock on the door jolted her from her thoughts, followed by a voice, calm and respectful.

"Miss Selene, are you awake? Your breakfast is ready."

It was the voice of the family butler, a man who had served their household for as long as she could remember. The sound of his voice, so steady and familiar, brought a strange sense of comfort amidst the chaos of her thoughts.

Swallowing the lump in her throat, Selene forced herself to respond, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her.

"Yes, I'm awake. I'll be down shortly," she replied, her words carrying a new weight, a new resolve.

As she stepped away from the window and made her way to the door, Selene knew that this was only the beginning. There was much to do, much to set in motion. But she would face it all with the knowledge that she had been given a rare and precious gift—a second chance to reclaim her life and her power.

And this time, she would not fail.

She paused before the door, her hand hovering over the doorknob. In her past life, she had been too trusting, too willing to believe in the goodness of others. But that had been her downfall. This time, she would be different. She would be vigilant, cautious, always one step ahead of her enemies.

Selene took a deep breath, steeling herself for what lay ahead. The world outside her room was the same one she had left behind, but she was no longer the same girl. She was older, wiser, and far more dangerous. And she would use every ounce of her knowledge, every scrap of her experience, to ensure that she emerged victorious.

With that thought, she turned the doorknob and stepped into the hallway, her expression calm and composed. She was ready. Ready to face the challenges ahead, ready to take control of her destiny.

As she walked down the familiar halls of her family's estate, she knew one thing for certain: this time, she would be the one to write her own story and control it.

And she would make sure that she would not fail!
