章節 24: Chapter 24 Apology.

After his scolding, they all went to get some food since Paul's stomach demanded to be filled with loud noise.

They had to wait for another day before the boat came and there was not much to do in this place so they decided to focus on cultivation especially since Paul was still low-level and both girls just started cultivating.

In the girl's case, it took them only till noon to finish leveling up and they were now level 10 in both mana and Qi.

Paul on the other hand only managed to gain a single level at the same time but his cultivation was much higher than theirs and it required much more time for him to level up especially since he was purifying his mana, in return, it also gave him much more power.

He wanted to continue cultivating and since both girls could not cultivate too much he gave each one a scroll with archery techniques and told them to practice their reading while learning it.

They all got busy with their things and the day passed calmly until Paul's cultivation was interrupted by a knock on his door.

-Who is it?

He asked.

-Young master a young lady and a man is waiting for you in the main hall.

The innkeeper's voice informed him.

-Thank you, I will be right there.

He said trying to hold back his anger since he was just about to make a breakthrough.

Paul managed to gain another level and was just a step from achieving another one when he was interrupted.

Any cultivator would be pissed as hell when he was so close to advancement and got interrupted.

As for the people who were looking for him, he was almost sure that it was the girl from the previous night and most likely the man who was sleeping on the other bed.

-What the hell do they want with me?

He asked himself but he was unable to find a reason for them to look for him since he already did what he could for the wounded woman and she should be fine now.

Paul got ready to meet them but before that, he went to tell the girls that he was going down to meet with some people.

He did promise them to not disappear without informing them and he was a man of his word.

After that, he went downstairs to see what was going on and what reason these two had to look for him.

Once he entered the main hall he saw them and he had guessed right it was the young girl from before and the man that was still wrapped in bandages.

-Hello, sorry if we disturbed you but we came to express our gratitude for your help, also I want to apologize for my rudeness when you came to help us even when you were not obligated to lift a finger to help us.

The young girl spoke with gratitude and remorse.

Only once she was sure that her aunt would survive did her anxiety disappear and she fell asleep right the next moment.

When she woke up she could think straight again and she regretted offending a healer mage who came to help them when he could just leave them to their fate and if that was the case then it would be her fault that her aunt died.

Especially since healers were a rare kind of mage and they got easily offended, she was shocked that Paul did not leave when she ridiculed his level and even questioned his healing methods.

The man beside her was the last guard remaining from their escorts as the rest of them died trying to protect them and once he was awake she explained to him what happened.

The guard looked like he was in his thirties but in reality, he was much older, and when he heard the whole story he convinced her to come here and apologize as offending a healer was not the wisest thing to do.

True, Paul was young and his cultivation was low but that would change with time and healers always had their hands full with people trying to curry their favor with them, not to mention that there would most likely be many powerful figures owing him a favor in the future. Having this kind of man retain a grudge against them was a recipe for disaster even with the power of their clan behind them it was not a good thing to make enemies with people who could potentially become famous and powerful in the future.

What's more, they might need his help again someday and there was a high chance that he would simply ignore them when that time came.

-There is no need for apologies, I understand that you were distressed and my cultivation level and age don't credit any trust in my abilities so there is no problem with that, now if you will excuse me I want to go back to my cultivation.

Paul turned around and left after saying these words in the most neutral voice that he could muster.

The same principle of offending people applied to these people.

He could tell that they were from a powerful clan and it was never a good idea to piss off a powerful clan unless you were powerful enough to take them out if the need arose.

-Well he is pissed at me.

The young girl said watching Paul go back upstairs.

-No, he is not. the guard beside her said.

-How is he not angry? He just said a sentence coldly and left.

The girl argued.

-Young lady, you failed to understand the other meaning his behavior had.

He was keeping a neutral voice trying not to offend us but also making sure we knew that we were not on friendly terms, and at the same time communicating that he wished to be left alone in case you were trying to recruit him.

This young man is not simple and this outcome is already good since he did not take offence and also did not offend us.

The guard explained to her and he was right on the money with his thoughts as this was exactly what Paul was trying to achieve.

-So what he wanted was to let this all go and forget that we have ever met?

She asked.

-That is exactly what he wants and I suggest that we let him do what he wants and mind our own business.

The guard spoke his thoughts on this matter.

If the young healer wanted them to remain strangers then he was more than willing to follow his wishes, especially since they managed to avoid becoming enemies.

-You might be right but Aunt will have a different opinion on this matter once she wakes up.

The young girl said.

She knew her Aunt better than her mother and she would not allow things to be left like this especially since this young man just saved her life and she was always adamant about gratitude for those who helped them.

The guard had become speechless as he had forgotten about his lady personality.

-Innkepper!

He called the man over.

-What can I do for you?

The owner asked once he arrived.

-How long will this young man stay here?

The guard asked.

-According to what he said he and his servants will leave tomorrow on the boat.

The innkeeper gave them the information as this was no secret.

-Thank you.

The guard said and gave him a few copper coins as a tip.

This information was important as they would have to stay there for another few days before the lady was well enough to travel and that meant that there would be no chance of them meeting.

Now all he preyed for to all the gods was that his Lady would sleep for another day so that this may be resolved without any additional drama.
