"Scientists really do have a knack for dirty tricks. You even managed to create something like this," Takuya remarked, swirling the strange liquid in the vial.
"When are we leaving?" he added. The Eight-Tails was rampaging, and although the Third Raikage would arrive soon to clean up the mess, the Hidden Cloud Village had already taken quite the beating.
Their mission was practically complete, though the heavy lifting had been done by Orochimaru. Takuya had spent his days leisurely exploring the village, even visiting the famous Cloud Valley Gorge. Not a bad trip overall.
Orochimaru, packing up his belongings, chuckled. "Aren't you curious why I invited you on this mission in the first place, Takuya?"
Leaning back in his chair and crossing his legs, Takuya shrugged. "I figured it out. You're afraid of dying. So, using my connection to Kushina, you took the opportunity to bring me along."
"If things go smoothly, you can retreat easily. But if something goes wrong, two are better than one. Having someone else draw fire increases your chances of escape," Takuya explained with a smirk.
Orochimaru wasn't someone who did things out of kindness. Takuya knew better than to believe that.
His motives laid bare, Orochimaru didn't seem to mind. He hadn't expected Takuya to be fooled in the first place.
Still maintaining his disguise, Orochimaru extended another invitation. "How about watching the rest of the show with me?"
"Of course! Who wouldn't want to see this?" Takuya grinned. Events like this didn't happen every day—it'd be a waste not to enjoy the chaos.
Takuya also recalled how Orochimaru had slyly taken the broken horn of the Eight-Tails with him. The village was in total disarray, the Eight-Tails rampaging uncontrollably. The seal had been shattered, and it was only a matter of time before the beast fully emerged.
"Rooarrrr!"
At that moment, a massive figure of crimson chakra was tearing through the Hidden Cloud. The drug Orochimaru had concocted sent the Eight-Tails into a full-blown frenzy, destroying everything in sight.
"Earth Release: Ten Thousand Earth Flow Walls!" One by one, tall earth walls rose, attempting to block the Eight-Tails' rampage. Dodai, the assistant to the Raikage, was working himself to the bone, barking orders.
"Where is the Raikage?!" he shouted, frustration clear in his voice.
The Eight-Tails had gone berserk far too suddenly, and to make things worse, the strongest ninja in the village, the Third Raikage, was out of town. With no other choice, Dodai led the village's jōnin in a desperate attempt to contain the beast.
But trying to stop the Eight-Tails or the Nine-Tails with sheer numbers was pointless. In the face of these tailed beasts, even large groups of shinobi were barely a match.
"Lord Dodai, we've already notified the Raikage. He should be on his way soon."
"Damn it! Hold the line!" Dodai roared.
The sounds of explosions, battles, screams, and chaos filled the air. Civilians and merchants alike fled in all directions, terrified.
Takuya and Orochimaru stood atop one of the taller buildings, watching the spectacle unfold.
"What did you put in that concoction of yours?" Takuya asked, half in disbelief as he watched the Eight-Tails completely lose control.
It was hard to believe, but here it was happening right before his eyes. Takuya remembered the vial Orochimaru had handed him earlier—it had seemed so ordinary. How had something so simple pushed the Eight-Tails to this point?
"It doesn't make sense," Takuya muttered to himself.
Orochimaru, arms crossed, watched the destruction with a twisted smile. "Tailed beasts are naturally filled with hatred and malice towards humans. At the same time, the jinchūriki often despise the beasts sealed within them. All I had to do was amplify that hatred and resentment, combined with a weakening of the seal..."
Takuya couldn't help but admire Orochimaru's ingenuity. Only someone like him would come up with such a devious solution.
The crimson chakra around the beast began to form bones and muscles, a clear sign that the tailed beast was about to fully emerge. If nothing stopped it now, the beast would soon break free from its jinchūriki entirely.
"Looks like we should get a bit further away," Takuya said.
As the Eight-Tails began to charge a Tailed Beast Bomb, both Takuya and Orochimaru retreated to a safer distance. They were here to watch, not get caught in the crossfire.
Without the Third Raikage, and with the Fourth Raikage not yet strong enough, could the Hidden Cloud really stop the Eight-Tails? The answer was obvious—they couldn't.
The Tailed Beast Bomb exploded in the center of the village, sending a devastating shockwave in every direction. Buildings crumbled, a massive mushroom cloud rose into the sky, and countless Hidden Cloud shinobi were killed, injured, or burned in the blast.
The Five Great Nations treated tailed beasts like nuclear weapons for a reason. Just look at the destruction this one attack had caused. The power of the Tailed Beast Bomb was on par with, if not greater than, modern missiles.
The shockwave from the explosion blew the wig right off Orochimaru's head, his expression filled with excitement as he watched the chaos unfold. This was the masterpiece he had orchestrated.
"The old man was right to let me carry out this retaliation against the Hidden Cloud. If the Nine-Tails ever unleashed its fury on Konoha, the destruction would be even worse than what we're seeing here," Orochimaru remarked.
"The Nine-Tails wouldn't get the chance to go wild," Takuya replied, still focused on the scene below.
"Oh?" Orochimaru's slitted eyes narrowed. "Are you saying you can restrain the Nine-Tails, Takuya?"
Could Takuya really restrain the Nine-Tails? Was he serious? Orochimaru's mind raced, wondering how Takuya could possibly pull that off. Was it this little fox companion of his? Or some other technique?
Orochimaru's curiosity was piqued as he speculated wildly.
Snowy, sitting on Takuya's shoulder, glanced at Orochimaru indifferently, not interested in giving him the time of day. It had never liked Orochimaru's scent to begin with.
"I can restrain it to some extent," Takuya admitted casually, not overplaying his hand.
He could restrain the Nine-Tails, sure—but it depended on how you defined restraint. Beating the beast into submission was one way, sealing it was another. Then there was the Madara Uchiha method of treating the Nine-Tails like a pet, or the Hashirama approach of casually grabbing it like a chicken.
Same result, but the methods were worlds apart.
The Hidden Cloud would suffer a massive loss from this Eight-Tails rampage. For the foreseeable future, they would have to put their rivalry with the Hidden Stone on hold.
"Roarrrr!!"
The Eight-Tails finally broke free.
Rampaging through the village, the beast smashed through everything in its path, unstoppable. Takuya watched with curiosity—how much damage could the Eight-Tails cause before it was brought down?
"Master, I sense a powerful chakra approaching," Snowy suddenly said, its tail stilling as an unsettling presence drew closer.
It seemed the main player had arrived.
A flash of lightning streaked through the air, slamming into the Eight-Tails and sending the massive beast flying back hundreds of meters. The Eight-Tails tumbled through the village, toppling countless buildings before finally coming to a stop.
The Third Raikage had arrived.
The lightning-fast figure that had just struck the Eight-Tails was none other than the Third Raikage, fully cloaked in his Lightning Release armor.
Aside from the absurdly overpowered Flying Thunder God technique, very few in the ninja world could match the Third Raikage's speed.
Orochimaru's grin faded, replaced by a more serious expression. The game had changed.
"Die!!!"
Roaring in rage, the Eight-Tails clambered back to its feet, its enormous mouth opening wide as it began to charge another Tailed Beast Bomb.
But the Third Raikage wasn't one to be intimidated. He charged straight for the beast, his muscles bulging as he raised his arm, thicker than Takuya's waist, and brought it crashing down on the Eight-Tails' jaw.
