章節 243: Chapter 243: Once You Shoot, Go All Out

---

The next day, in the Washington suburbs, Hardy met President Johnson at a high-end private golf course. Johnson, with his silver-white hair and glasses, resembled more of a financier than a politician.

"Hello, Hardy," President Johnson said, extending his hand.

"Hello, Mr. President," Hardy responded with a smile, shaking Johnson's hand.

The weather was perfect—blue skies, white clouds, and a temperature neither too high nor too low. The private golf course was deserted, allowing Hardy and Johnson to stroll leisurely on the green.

"Hadi, I didn't expect you to be so young. At only 27, you've achieved so much in less than three years," Johnson remarked.

Indeed, Johnson was astonished by Hardy's background. In just three years, Hardy had risen from obscurity to prominence. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II and returning home wounded, Hardy's career had skyrocketed. He ventured into security, film, business, and made significant profits from Playboy magazines and Barbie toys. He then expanded into television, hospitality, and media, acquiring Wells Fargo with the support of Bank of America to establish the Hardy Group.

Johnson had also heard about Hardy's connections with the L.A. Gang and the significant investments in Las Vegas casinos. The casinos were linked with Mafia families and the California Consortium, suggesting Hardy was forging powerful alliances.

Despite his polished public image, Hardy had amassed substantial influence. The HD Security Company, employing over 5,000 veterans, had become the largest security firm in the U.S. and had contracts with the police departments of Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In response to Johnson's compliment, Hardy smiled. "I can only say that I've been fortunate to live in a time where dreams can be realized. With leaders like you, Mr. President, there's space for development."

Johnson asked about Hardy's future plans for the Hardy Group. Hardy outlined a three-year plan to expand into media, gaming, security, retail, and luxury goods, with a focus on international markets, particularly Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong? Why invest there?" Johnson inquired.

Hardy explained that Hong Kong's strategic location made it a gateway to Asia, and despite its current instability, it presented a significant market opportunity. He believed that regardless of future conflicts, Hong Kong would maintain its status as a vital hub due to its need for Western recognition and development.

Johnson was impressed by Hardy's analysis but acknowledged that predicting the future was always uncertain.

"How do you see the future of the United States?" Johnson asked with a smile.

Hardy confidently replied, "The U.S. will become the most powerful country in the world. We have the strength and unique conditions to ensure that."

President Johnson smiled in agreement.

"Mr. President, how do you plan to lead the country forward?" Hardy asked, probing for Johnson's policy strategies.

Johnson paused before sharing his campaign plans. He intended to continue the Marshall Plan to support Europe, launch employment policies, and advocate for affordable housing. He also aimed to lift the restrictions imposed by the Labor Relations Act of 1947, oppose apartheid, and raise the minimum wage. Johnson's focus was on stabilizing the country's fundamentals and ensuring progressive change.

Hardy listened attentively. For him, the political landscape was about securing his own interests, and he saw little value in overthinking matters.

After several hours of conversation, Hardy made his support clear. "Mr. President, you know ABC TV is mine. If you need help with publicity, I'm ready to assist."

Johnson was pleased to hear this. Hardy proposed arranging an exclusive interview on "Elaine Tonight," live coverage for future speeches, and documentaries highlighting Johnson's contributions. Additionally, Hardy offered to publish Johnson's policy plans in the Global Times, which had a nationwide reach.

Johnson was taken aback by the comprehensive support Hardy offered, particularly the idea of a documentary. Hardy's plan to showcase Johnson's achievements from World War II was an excellent propaganda opportunity.

"Thank you, Hardy," Johnson said sincerely. "Your support means a lot."

Hardy continued, "I'm also prepared to contribute $2 million to your campaign fund."

Johnson was overjoyed. The funds would significantly aid his campaign, which was currently struggling due to a lack of resources.

Hardy further offered HD Airlines to handle Johnson's travel needs and the possibility of enlisting Hollywood stars to support his campaign.

Johnson was deeply grateful. Hardy's willingness to invest in his campaign and provide extensive support was a lifeline in a challenging election year.
