It was close to 4 a.m. when we finally sat down for dinner. The food was warm and comforting, a welcome end to the long day. Milan, as always, had outdone herself, her cooking was impeccable. She had reheated the meal while I cleaned up, and now we both enjoyed the hearty feast in the quiet of the early morning.

As we ate, I began to tell her about my day, leaving out the more troubling details especially the fact that Evans Maurice was Gregory's son. That was a wound I did not want to reopen, at least not tonight. Milan had been through enough when it came to Gregory, and I could not bring myself to pile more onto her.

"I had to deal with security protocols all day," I said between bites. "New access codes, server cleanup, all the fun stuff."

She nodded, sipping her wine. "Sounds exhausting. Anything else?"
