The four of us were surprised when we saw each other in front of the empress's residence. Eunuch Liu was standing in front of the gateway. He bows his head.

"Her highness was waiting inside, my lords, my ladies," he remarked.

He signed us to go first. We get inside and head into the receiving hall. The empress and her three husbands were all sitting on their chairs.

We bow our heads and pay our respect to them. "Take your seats and join us for a light meal," Empress Wu says.

We take our seats and notice that we have the same table with two futons on the floor. I think she commands her maids to do this on purpose.

"I heard something around the bees. Is it true, Su Ming Xi and Song Jialun?" she asks without any hesitations.

Our table was facing the table of Song Jialun and Cai Lin. "Your highness, I have a favor that I want to ask," I remarked. She put down the tea cup and met my eyes.
