章節 6: Chapter Six: Competitive
There are a few days left to my completion of a decade in this strange new world, my body is unrecognizable from my past life, and memories of a childhood in a country far away have resurfaced in my mind, I see paintings and colors, the sting of a belt and the pang of rejection from a strange institution. The rage consumed me for a few days until the memories from my new life overcame the few memories of my past, the people around me were convinced that I had come down with a fever, and I had just now resumed my sword training.
The sword has somehow become an extension of my physical being and I have mastered the basic parries and attacks that one can muster with a blade, my father proved to be my greatest adversary on the training ground. Soon I was participating in village competitions like the one I had just entered.
With my skillset and determination, I had managed to make it to the final stage of the competition, four other boys of similar age to me, stood holding wooden bokken blades, as we stared into each other's souls in a ring, I waited as the bell was struck and the ring was enveloped into pure chaos.
Boy #1 rushed to me with his bokken raised, I dropped my stance and dodged behind him, aiming at his uncovered back, but my blade was met by boy #2, they seemed to be working together to take me down, while boy #3 and #4 were having a massive duel in the other side of the ring.
I darted back and then forward mimicking a thrust and managed to get past boy #2's defense but was met once again by boy #1's blade, I charged forward pressing his blade closer to him until the boy was nearly out of the ring, the change in the movement of the wind announced itself in my ear as boy #2 behind me, moved to slash at my back, knowing his deceit, I sidestepped and watched as boy #2's bokken collided with boy #1's stomach and sent him flying out of the ring.
Boy #2 was in shock for a great while before he turned to me with contempt in his eyes, charging at breakneck speeds, leaving me with no option but to continuously parry, until I reached the edge of the ring, I knew I must end this fight, I mustered the courage to press boy #2 back into the circle and jumped into the sky, the air around my head fogging as I concentrated totally on incapacitating this boy, I raised my bokken to the heavens, my body in line with my blade, I could see everything he did, the world was transparent, and he was...
Slow!
I slashed down, cutting through his bokken like butter and reaching his shoulder, creating a sickening crunch, dislocating it, and leaving him unarmed, I swiveled on my feet and lashed out at him with a side-kick, sending the unlucky boy tumbling out of the ring, alongside boy #4 w2hpo had just lost his fight with boy #3.
I turned to face the last boy remaining in the ring, and smiled, revealing my front row of teeth, I watched as he felt intimidated by my devilish look, "What are you waiting for!"
I launched a fury of assaults at him, my bokken slicing through the air as if sending air slashes at the boy, he could do noting but parry, but he was good, even when there were openings I wasn't able to fully exploit them, yet hs body was full of bruises from the never-ending onslaught from my bokken.
Suddenly, my momentary battle excitement got the better of me, sending my bokken in a high arcing slash, the boy seized the opportunity to slash at me, narrowly missing as I jumped backward to avoid being winded, I watched as he gained momentum and kept slashing and hacking at my bokken, I waited and waited until we were at the edge of the ring, just as I was about to fall out, I rose with the tip of my blade, thrusting upwards into the boy's chest, winding him, then a slash to the face, and a hack to the feet were enough to knock the boy out,
I watched as the crowd cheered and shouted my name, my father came and we rode home on a horse.
"Hey Adolf, I made a good buck, betting on you!"
"Ehhhhhhh, does that mean my birthday feast is gonna be magnificent!"
"Yes my boy, though I doubt your mother needs to know..."
"Don't worry papa!"
And I smiled for the first time properly, since I reached this place, as we rode off into the sunset.
