章節 4: Chapter Four: Is Patience Really A Virtue?

------ Five Years Later ------

The night sky was dotted with stars and the sharp cold air entered my airways, forcibly shoving cold oxygen into my body, the sweat glistening on my arms and body as I kept swinging the wooden bokken in my hands, the rock which I had been hacking at for nearly five years now, looked as if though I had made no progress, other than my body honing itself, it felt as though I had no talent for swordsmanship.

The leaves rustled gently in the wind of the dusk and the hummingbird's sweet melody continued in a fashion that did not comfort my situation, the river behind me churned and swayed in the moonlight reflecting the stars in the sky, bringing me light, the atmosphere was too calm for me to notice anything else until the sweet tranquillity of my setting was disturbed by the intense shaking of trees and the slash of a sword as the clearings majestic silence was disturbed by the entrance of a man, clad in armor and riding a horse.

"You Boy! What are you doing?"

I looked the man up and down until my gaze landed on the crest on his chest plate, the Greyrat family crest...

"Good sir, it seems you are looking for the Greyrat family home!"

"Yes we are now could you point us the right way boy!?"

I thought for a moment before deciding that even if these folks had bad intentions, Paul could deal with them, couldn't he?

"I am Adolf Greyrat, son of Paul Greyrat and I shall lead you to my home!"

The man looked flabbergasted and turned to his carriage where a young woman sat and what seemed to be her child, a red-haired girl sat...

"That is my child Eris, please be seated in my carriage and point me the way."

I did as I was told and soon we reached the large garden of the Greyrat home, the carriage came to a halt outside the front door, where a weary Paul exited, his sword brandished and pointed at the man in the armor, his expressions eased at my arrival though.

"Father these people were looking for our house!"

Paul looked at the man and they held onto a fierce staring contest for minutes before he did the unthinkable, laughing before hugging each other, "Cousin, how have you been!"

The hugs and handshaking ceased as Zenith appeared and ragged away Paul's cousin's wife, who seemed to be named Hilda, they went off to discuss their lives leaving Paul, his cousin Philip and I to sit in the dining room. It was quite uncomfortable to hear them talk and have no say, but to play the part of a child, one must do what a child does.

"So Cousin Paul, giving the child the Greyrat treatment? Guessing he's not very talented at magic?"

"Yeah, when he breaks the rock, I told him the lessons start..."

The two men shared a hearty chuckle before Paul got up and left to collect more beer and wine from,m the cellar, Phillip had a heartwarming smile on him that was in a way, kind of sly...

"Adolf right?"

"Yes, Uncle Phillip!" I tried acting excited as a child would, but it seemed to surprise him, and I managed to pipe down...

"Your technique is wrong!"

I sat momentarily thinking about what the man said, will he teach me the right way to cut the rock? Could there be another way to get to the target like in the well?

"How do I do it?" I asked timidly, the man wouldn't render me fearful if I was in my old body, but being the toddler I am, the fear sort of comes naturally.

"I can't tell you," he said among laughs, "Everything from your mind to the tip of your blade and the valor in your heart must be in line!" He said before winking.

"But Uncle, I've been doing it for five years, my patience is waning."

The man continued to chuckle and from then on had passed a certain point of drunkenness that compelled him to ignore me.

I creeped out of the room and found myself walking toward the sitting room, where a red-haired girl was playing with my bokken, Eris... She pretended to slash and hack until my bokken flew and landed at my feet.

"Hey, Eris Chan!"

"Ehhh Who are you?"

"I am-" my words were cut short as the little girl balled up her fist and made contact with my abs, "Nani!" If it wasn't for the last five years of body conditioning I would be on the floor wheezing. As for the girl she wore an angry expression on her face.

What the hell is wrong with her?
