He opened it to find a couple standing in the hallway—a man about his age, tall and lanky, with an easy smile, and a woman who had a glint in her eye the moment she saw him.

"Hey, mate!" the man said, extending his hand. "I'm Dan, your neighbor from next door. Thought we'd come over and help you unpack. You must be the new tenant."
